Good report ASF. Sounds like a great trip home.

Cool, overcast with light rain on the North Shore, with lightning crackling in the radio from a storm out to sea off the Eastern suburbs.

Sounds like a fair bit of action east of the divide over the weekend. Dry out here all weekend and a 5.5 degree morning on Saturday which was a surprise. No rain around this area that I know of.

Looking like a pleasant week this week out here but the following week looks noticeably warmer around the middle of the month.

2.1mm in the 24hrs to 9am this morning, once again according to FB there was another good light show just offshore, but every time I got up during the night all i had seen was just the odd flash and a bit of distant thunder could be heard.
Some nice structure moving up the coast atm.
Here is a pic of small cell just about to precip.

Cheers Sea-Mist and Steve777! smile

Yes what a return trip, a holiday, and a storm season it's been for me so far! All the fun I had during my holiday spending time with family amd friends, and I got to see more of what Northeast Victoria/Southeast NSW/ACT has to offer. smile

But as for the 2014/2015 Storm Season, what a HUGE turn-around for me! I had a paltry 13 Storm Days in total during the July-December period (1 in July, 0 in August, 2 in September, 1 in October, 5 in November, and 4 in December), but I clocked up a staggering 16 Storm Days in January, and 1 so far for February, with more Storm Days ahead for me up in Darwin, and hopefully more after I return to Melbourne before the season ends! grin

Thanks again for the fun guys, tbh I'm starting to see myself almost as a New South Welshman, since New South Wales is the only Australian State outside my home State of Victoria that I visit the most. Looking forward to returning north of the Murray River soon, even though I'll probably briefly fly into Southwest NSW on my way between Melbourne and Darwin next week! smile

Cheers. Vinaka vakalevu! wink

Glad you had a great trip ASF. Enjoyed your reports.
To Sea Mist - re yesterday afternoon.
We received zilch, blotto, a big fat donut. In other words. Nothing. All the action was in the far western suburbs.
It looked good though from a distance.
Currently completely overcast here. Temp 23 deg's. I was in Bronte earlier this morning and the sky was clear and sunny.

Looks like a nice heavy shower heading towards Eddy-ville. Could even be a spark or two in it.

Yeah Homer, it's been like that all day, most of the shower activity has largely missed me, just 0.6mm so far. Just hope it holds its line strength!!

Plenty of storms in the NW Slopes & Plains and down in to a bit further south.

Also several slow moving ones south of here (Rockley/Trunkey) and west (Cudal/Cargo/Molong)

Anyone under the correct cloud may get decent falls due to the very slow movement of them. Not really expecting any to get here but will keep fingers crossed for a few drips later.

No sparkies frown and 33.75 drops of rain. It all went to the west of me, places like Karuah, Lemon tree passage, Williamtown and Medowie should have got a good drop out it!!

Today really felt like mid autumn, cool when the clouds blocked out the sun and when the sun was out you could feel it but no real sting in it!!

Looks like chains of showers out to sea are about to impinge on the coast near Sydney and Newcastle.

Here's the view around 4:15 this afternoon showing a bit of the towers just out to sea, unfortunately largely hidden by low-flying scud.

Rain clouds off Sydney by SteveSeven77, on Flickr

It was sunny and mild today after early light rain. It became quite windy (high hat-lifting co-efficient) this afternoon, like a fresh Southerly change.

P.S. the Observatory Hill site is on the hill below the centre of the picture and above the white boat.

We didn't get any light rain today, in fact we only got some drizzle some time during 5th period (so between 1:40 and 2:40).

I woke up to a beautiful and sunny morning, albeit nice and cool. In fact it stayed mostly sunny until the about noon and then cloud gradually built until it was 100% cloudy at around 3pm. Currently cloudy now with cool and moderate but gusty southerly winds. Temp is somewhere just above 20C.

Thats a nice pic Steve.

Homer: Yes, I saw that storm dissipate just before it got to your area so perhaps the cooler air associated with the southerly closer to the coast caused the storm to decay..? Don't worry we got a whole load of nothing too, except maybe some thundery rain after I went to bed.

Well it's been coming down for about half and hour now with some strong gusts.

Ended up with 3mm to 9am today but thought it was more.
This rain train look's like it will last a bit longer going by the radar. Doesn't seem like summer!

Coming down moderate to heavy as I type.

Yeah doesn't seem like summer at all aye. If you think today doesn't feel like it, you should have been here last week... Lol. smile

Hope you guys get some nice rainfall this evening into tonight.

Something must be up with the Mona Vale rain gauge, it's not updating.
It is still hammering down here.
Feel a little sorry for the Kookaburras in the gum tree on west side of the building just sitting there copping it, at least there out of the wind gusts.
Look's like it will end soon going by the radar.

The last 10 days have been absolutely horrible down here. Nothing but cloud cold temperatures and a spot of drizzle here and there. We have missed out on all of the meaningful rainfall and the weather that goes with it.. We are too far west to get the coastal showers, but also too far south, as the South east winds gather more moisture the further north you go leading to more substantial shower activity. We are too far east to see any of the Tablelands storm activity, so it seems we are in a lose lose situation. 22c freezing cold and cloudy, repeat 10 times in a row.

February has been a fantastic month for us in previous years, in 2002 we got a supercell with 3-5cm hail, 115km/h winds and also a confirmed tornado. We got 200mms in a day in 2007, and 2010 gave the south of town hail to 4cms. Unfortunately this February looks extremely benign here with only long range models pick up some sort of hope.

Another fine and mostly sunny morning here with the temp sitting on 16C. I had a feeling it would be mostly sunny this morning because the cloud had already mostly cleared to a bright, moonlit night when I peeked out the window at about 12am. The forecast reckons it will stay mostly sunny today, but I dunno, I think that pesky low cloud will invade in the arvo.

Agree pintang, it's been a pretty annoying run of weather, although in saying that we have had some picture perfect days in between the dreary ones.

After quite a bit of rain last evening here, got woken by short sharp downpours through-out the night overflowing the gutters. 32mm on BOM's rain gauge in Narara but slightly closer to the coast here in East Gosford it felt more like 50mm.

Obviously these showers are very localised looking at the rainfall around Sydney. The Central Coast and Hunter Coast copping it again. Feb is off to a wet start up here!
