7.2mm in the 24hrs, from some short sharp showers overnight.

Today its partly cloudy and quite cool with this light fresh southerly blowing. Currently 21.9c and i reckon it will take all day to get to the forecast of 24c

Send some heat across DaveM!!

Crazy isn't it Eddy!! smile We are sunny day after sunny day ad infinitum smile

If it wasn't for the cooler easterlies we would be quite hot. however those persistent easterlies are what's causing your gloom. smile

It's sunny on the North Shore now after a cloudy start and a couple of light showers.

It's windy again, with no warmth in the breeze.

We've had a generally partly cloudy day here with cool and pleasant southerly winds. This weather is very nice when at school, but not so much so for going to the beach and swimming etc. It looks like we could get a reprieve from this S/SEly dominated weather by the weekend.

What a beautiful afternoon. The southerly winds slacked off and turned into just a light breeze, and the clouds cleared away to make way for brilliant sunshine. Despite the hot sun, it felt comfortable because of the cool temps.

It's just a shame that showers are expected tomorrow.. Because I want more of this arvo's weather!

Edit: It's going to be a cool night possibly dropping into the low teens. I can already feel it.

Driving to Kalkite again today - heading into that approaching front.
I don't expect too much excitement but it looks like it'll have a cooler blast behind it.
A very pleasant 15 deg's here this morning although it's quite dull very heavy low cloud.

The clearing edge of the cloud is quite spectacular in how defined it is. The edge was straight overhead about 15 mins ago. Now the cloud has almost cleared and making way for a beautiful sunny day.

The temp got down to the low teens as I suggested (13C to be precise).

How are you in Kalkite? Keen to hear some reports from down there.

Cheers, SM

We're now getting lots of StratoCu from the south. Just when I thought it had cleared, more comes up the coast.

Haha Homer!!

Homer must be in semi retirement?

Quite a pleasant late autumn day here, looked like a few showers was going to spoil the morning, but has since cleared to a mostly sunny day.

Hoping this heat after the weekend wont ruin this late autumn weather, was hoping to plant some tulips!! grin

3 day trip this time. Bit of house maintenance.
Semi retirement Eddy - I wish!!! Plus I'm not that old!!
Very pleasant 20 deg's here atm. Pretty boring trip weather wise. There was a rogue storm behind the Brindabella's, but it was hidden by lower cloud. Foggy, drizzley bear and cool going through the southern highlands.

Homer.

Since the weather patterns flipped on Australia Day, it's been cool across Sydney. This cool spell looks to have another two days to go before what most people think as 'Summer' weather resumes. Here are some stats for selected locations for the 10 days Jan 26 to Feb 4 (min, max, daily mean, with anomalies)

Code:
Airport: 17.6 (-2.0); 23.3 (-3.6); 20.5 (-2.8)
Bankstown: 15.8 (-2.3); 24.7 (-3.4); 20.3 (-2.8)
Penrith: 16.3 (-2.2); 25.1 (-5.0); 20.7 (-3.6)

I used the mean of the January and February averages for 1981-2010 to calculate anaomalies (1995-2014 for Penrith)

The next two days won't greatly change these numbers.

It is pretty much what GFS (supported by ACCESS) was showing before the event - nearly two weeks of Southerlies, with heavy rain in the first of those weeks. It has been sunnier than I was expecting, however.

The 'cold' anomalies have been comparable to those of the (in)famous month of December 2011, although thankfully this spell won't be as long lasting.

I didn't include Observatory Hill - too heat island affected. Maxima there in since Saturday have been close to average, even though it felt cool evreywhere else.

What I'd like to see is a comparable spell in July, which would involve 12 days of maxima in the 10 - 16 range across Sydney, preseumably with lots of snow on nearby tablelands.

I'd like to see that too, Steve.

Well have fun there at Kalkite mate. smile Should be a nice break from Sydney's weather and a nice mini holiday!! Even if your just there for house maintenance.

Re. Southern highlands- Yeah that's pretty typical for that area. My grandma and pop live up there. Pretty miserable spot weather wise- Often too far east for low level snow events (moisture dries out). And close enough to the ocean to get seabreezes and lots of cold and foggy days in summer.

Another partly cloudy day today, just like yesterday. If the mountains weren't creating uplift, we would probably be under almost full sunshine atm. Temp is 22C and it looks like a rain band is moving up the coast so me and you Sydneysiders could pick up a bit of light rain.

I also would like to see that Steve. The July scenario that you're talking about. Although wouldn't like the cold, I like extreme and unusual weather.

SM.

Also just a question for you guys that are older and have more memories than me: Has there actually ever been a period like what Steve was talking about where we have had almost two weeks of below average maxima in July?

The southern highlands are very English like scenery wise so the foggy drizzly weather that they so often get seems quite appropriate.

The easterly has pushed through here now and it's feeling quite cold. Temp has dropped to 17 degrees.

Yeah it is very English like. And yeah it actually feels normal when driving through there with fog and rain because of that influence. smile

It's a nice area, but it's just not fitting for my weather tastes.

SM.
