I'm wondering whether anyone can tell me if we've ever seen seen six named cyclones across the globe in one week as we have just seen:

SOUTHERN INDIAN
1. Haliba
2. Olwyn

SOUTH PACIFIC
3. Nathan
4. Pam

A rare out of season system in the northern hemisphere
WEST PACIFIC
5. Bavi

And an even rarer one
SOUTH ATLANTIC
6. Cari

What on Earth is going on?

Certainly very active out there atm. My guess is it would have happened before but definitely a rare event. Especially the south Atlantic system.

I'm fascinated by the fact we're surrounded by 4 named cyclones, with TS Bavi named now.

Interesting story on STS Cari, and the history of South Atlantic systems.
