Thought I would open this thread to start up some discussion regarding this week's pending rain.
A series of low pressure troughs and an associated rain band is set to hover through NSW this week. Falls of up to 50 mm's are forecast over parts of the state. An ECL is set to form Wednesday afternoon/evening, introducing a cooler/colder south-easterly flow with continued shower activity. From Wednesday onwards, snow is forecast (at this stage) for 5 consecutive days.

Look who's the new thread start king now. wink
Good stuff Homeboy.

It looks like a relatively unusual setup for winter. More like a "warm season" setup IMO.

Hopefully it falls where it's needed most. The farmers need this rain.

No thread start king. Just thought this might be worthy of some separate discussion. Current sat pics and synoptics say yes as well.

There have been some heavy falls in the far West of NSW, e.g:

- Tiboburra Airport 26.2 mm, mostly in the 3 hours 8:30-11:30 PM.
- White Cliffs 16.2 mm.

Also, Wilcannia has had 30mm already; falling between 12am and now. Pretty impressive and more than I expected for those parts.

Looks like it could be a showery day here, there are are few showers to the east of the Sydney basin and they appear to be tracking straight towards the Illawarra.

Pretty good falls out that way as you guys mentioned. At this stage to my eye, the sat pic looks to have the cloud tending to stay a bit westwards (as you watch the movement) obviously it will gradually move eastwards, for this area probably overnight tonight will be start of the main action. Then it's a matter of how long it can rain tomorrow.

Gee 20 or 30mm would be lovely, more would be nice, hopefully no less than 20 for here.

Walgett has a forecast of 10 to 20mm today and tomorrow - I really hope those areas up there get a good drop out of this. They can plant wheat on rain now.

Narrabri has a BOM forecast of 40 - 80mm tomorrow, Opticast says 20 - 40mm, so with any luck they should have somewhere around 40mm and again the croppers will love that.

The black soil areas though may have a delay getting on to the paddocks after that rain, tractors will end up bogged to their undersides blush

The cloud to my west has a very encouraging appearance. Thin but reeks of substance. smile

Sometimes what is a curse to someone is a blessing to others. If this weather event delivers some desperately needed rain to areas like Walgett etc, I hereby declare that I will not whine about the negative impacts of $rap weather here or in the Alps. he he. But seriously there will be some lined faces amongst the grainbelters who will be able to smile the first smiles in many awhile. God we breed em tough in this country. And I mean tough. I spoke to an idiot the other day who thought anyone from outside of our coastal clinger regions were all hillbillys. Man I got steamed up. I'm a big bloke at 110kg and 6ft 3 ish and I looked at this jelly squish halfwit, majoring in sociology and wanted to snap im in half. There are zillions of these imbeciles in our cities who have no concern for the sweat and tears that goes into putting food on their @umba&s plates. Rant off.

I hear you there Knott.

Here at work it's pretty obvious when SOME "Sydney" people come in here, the attitude is obvious VERY quickly. HOWEVER - obviously we get plenty of nice ones too.

Some will talk to me like I just learned to talk and maybe could tie my shoelaces. Funny thing is, they usually show themselves up so quickly as having way less idea than they think.

But I digress, I notice that the big whole in the radar system in NSW is now starting to be overcome with some shower activity showing up just north of Dubbo and north of Narrabri. I expect that activity will slowly increase as the day wears on. smile

Yep. We need a radar at Dubbo.
Good to see the overnight falls out west. Any rain for the farmers out that way is a blessing. To get 20-30 mm's, with the hope of more soaking rain is just beautiful.
It's looking at becoming quite cold towards the end of the week when the south easterlies kick in. There is quite a deep southerly fetch in front of the next high. Places like Bombala/Nimmitabel could see some snow.
Sun trying to break through here now after quite a dull morning.
Currently 13.8. Quite a lot of showers off the coast coming in from the north east. Wollongong and surrounds just starting to see some now.

Quite a lot of that rain is forecast for here, but I am not hopeful. So far all the cloud and lightning is much further west.
It should be overcast here by now, but it isn't.
Mind you, the autumn was wet, so there is not much to complain about just yet.

We have had persistent light showers most of morning here in Shellharbour - a bit more than the airport gauge suggests. Slightly heavier as I write.

Yeh, looks like there's plenty more showers heading your way too.
I don't see much for Sydney till later this afternoon when those showers from the north east start to creep in.
Certainly quite dull here at present. Temp just 16.4 deg's. No rain recorded yet.

A little drizzle earlier. Quite overcast and some dark cloud to south and out to sea. The synoptic blows me out. Many folks in NW NSW and SW Qld have been praying for rain. Prayers answered. Others of course will soon be praying for snow. Hopefully they will get there turn in the cue late June and July.

Some rather heavy drizzle at times, not enough to register in the gauge at this stage, wind is starting to pick up in strength from the NE.

Quite humid too!!

I must say it has become very, very dark here atm.
No rain. Temp 15.7 deg's. I sit right by a window and I need the lights on. Showers not far away by the look of the radar.

Drizzle falling here atm, it's enough to wet the ground. More to come as well. Looking forward to see what this event will bring.

Up to 5.6mm at Albion Park (W'gong Airport) at 2.30pm, constant light-moderate rain over last 30 minutes at Shellharbour. Very gloomy.
