GFS and Access really shoving quite cold air well into NSW and in fact up to the south of QLD.

Snow likely in a number of areas PLUS GFS going for an ECL of the south coast.

Rain likely (not necessarily general rain but prob showers) in most of the eastern half of NSW.

GFS says snow in Bathurst on Sunday 1pm, that may well change. smile

I was wondering who would be game enough to start this thread.

I am hoping for a snow chase Sunday 11th..at this stage somewhere like Taralga or Crookwell.

Worse case scenario ( besides no snow) is a fair dump at Robertson as police will shut down Macquarie pass, which means some devious back roads ( Jamberoo Pass, or Hume HWY - Range Road).

The police should close the road at the top of the pass at a point before the road gets dangerous, so kids who have never seen snow still get the chance to see some in paddocks

Here's the percentage of all the forecast scenarios from the NCEP and CMC ensembles that are forecasing snowfalls for the period between 6 and 14 days from now:

The more reliable/regular snowfalls over periods of years are becoming less common in recent times although that doesn't mean there won't be any more snow, nor the occasional period which bucks the overall trend.

Only at around 7cm per year though smile

Pulses of impressive 500hpa temps with this upcoming system... -30C and thereabouts.

My first snow sighting was around 7 years old (I am 58). Dad took the family, plus 4 relations piled in the back of the station wagon to Robertson.

We only had to go to the top of the pass and snow covered the paddocks 3-4 ins deep. There were people even skiing.

Here at Shellharbour Square where I live there is a picture on the wall of the shopping centre, taken in the late 1940's judging by the old car shapes. It shows a convey of (traffic jam) of cars returning from Robertson at around the first hairpin and all the cars have huge snowmen on them that people had built.

I go to Shellharbour Square sometimes and have never noticed that painting. I will keep an eye out next time I go there.

Well I'm going home on Wednesday which is a shame. I hope I can get back up here on Sunday.

It is the Shellharbour history photo gallery, you need to enter from the entrance near the motor registry. Other pics include a massive haul of Jewfish, no wonder there is bugger all around now.

Never even knew there was a photo gallery there. Well there you go... I just realized I said "I never noticed that painting". Obviously I meant to say that photo.

This cold outbreak coming up will be interesting nonetheless. But I doubt I will be outside enjoying it.

South Coast and around the corner into Gippsland may have a lot of rain if an ECL type scenario develops down there over the weekend and/or early next week.

Models varying with inland rain amounts BUT it seems some areas in the Central and South slopes and plains may do very well with rain as well as cold. Some areas may have 20 to 40mm over the period.

We have had possible snow icons show up on my phone for 2 days re the weekend now for Bathurst. EC still not AS keen but I think slowly coming more towards ACCESS and GFS. Could also be a double bunger event with cold over the weekend and another pulse Monday/Tuesday.

Cold air will likely also push WELL north and may have interesting effects on the NT's and Kaputar.
Time will tell. smile

Looks like we timed our trip over the mountains and up to Mudgee pretty well for this coming weekend. Hopeful of seeing a few flakes.

There might be lots of "Road closed by snow and ice" type signs.

I look forward to seeing what evolves out of tomorrow's models. smile

GFS has 528 thickness over us here on Sunday. Access 532 at same time.

Meteye has Bathurst getting snow from 10am to 1pm on Sunday No gaps without snow in the Bathurst bowl and surrounds. grin

Hope that idea continues. grin

If you haven't looked at Meteye yet, it's time to do so!
I won't mention this again, but shouldn't this thread be under "Alpine and Snow"?

It probably wouldn't hurt having a thread in the Alpine & Snow for the upcoming system, but a lot of NSW is not going to see snow, but will see plenty of cold air, rain and strong winds, so this particular thread covers all of NSW.

Snow in Wagga would be pretty cool. Looks like some indoor weather coming up.
I saw sleet here once.
