Hooray !! A Southern Right Whale mother and calf at Basham Beach, near Middleton. They are just loafing. Please drive safely to this location. There is no need to hurry as they will be here for quite awhile.
The cockle train will be running for the school hols. You can see the whales from the train or, better still put your bike on the train, get off at Middleton and head for Basham Beach which is close by.

Hi everyone. A Humpback Whale was sighted at Knights Beach a few days ago.
June 1st is the official start of the Whale season, so this was a very early sighting.

Hopefully some Whale sightings soon.
A very user friendly South Australian Whale Watching location map Fleurieu Peninsula and Head of Bight, was in our local paper today.
Presume same will be at the South Australian Whale Centre, 2 Railway Terrace Victor Harbor.
Visit Victor for the festival on Sunday and get this as it has heaps of info.

Mother and calf residing at Basham Beach! (Refer to log)
Don't let the weather put you off visiting here, as usually viewing is good if you wish to stay in your vehicle. Warm clothes and beanie essential.

In case you haven't had time to view the sighting log, whale sighting logged 50 metres out from the Victor/ Hbr skate park on Bridge Ter. ( Follow the same directions as above and as you turn left the skate park will be easy to see. Think you will see the whales before!!)

Well, what a chance to view Whales so close, so we headed off to Victor.
Thought the best vantage point to view the Bay was from the carpark in Hayward Court. (Proceed into Victor , past the servos, pass the lookout on the left, then the 2nd street on the left is this location)
On arrival the sea was lumpy but calm near the shoreline but on the rise with binoculars viewing was great. 2 Whales- one junior were resting and moving 300 metres out. Pec displays and blowing and size of whales clearly seen.
Suddenly the adult spy hopped and moved quickly closer to the shore 150 metres from the mouth of the Hindmarsh River. Junior imitated the adult.
Back under the water they travelled to the original spot then headed back closer to the shore. Spy hopping was occuring at intervals

We are still enjoying the Whales - often at Basham Beach near Middleton.
Today the sea was very choppy but the loafing whales were easily seen.
