I can imagine the snow skiers rejoicing! After a snowy period (down to circa 700M at times) over the past 3 days, a follow-up is on its way?:

[edit] - what a cold night is progged (at this early stage) for Tassie next Sunday night.

Looks exciting, just a query about the dates in the title? Shouldn't it be from July 28th onwards or something? wink

Anyway, let's add a synoptic analysis in shall we. smile

First a high pressure system moves into Southeastern Australia tomorrow and clears out any weather that is left in the wake of the recent polar blasts, minus coastal showers and inland fog and frost.

Then on Wednesday a northerly airflow develops across Victoria, ahead of a series of intense cold fronts and deep low pressure systems now on the move in the Southern Ocean. Northerly winds strengthening, potentially to gale-force, on Thursday with cloud increasing from the west; rain and/or showers and possible thunderstorms developing as the first cold front charges across Victoria, along with alpine snow. Also not forgetting a developing low pressure trough over WA. smile

Winds veer westerly with the front's passage, then northerly/northwesterly again on Friday as a second cold front moves in on Saturday, with a third cold front (the one you guys are talking about) striking on Sunday. Conditions remain cold, wet, blustery, mostly cloudy, and potentially stormy (not-forgetting the potential for low-level snow as you guys stated) during this period and into the early part of next week. smile

What a great way to say goodbye to July and welcome August, my most favourite month of winter! Horray!! grin

Cheers Petros! smile

Overnight low of 7.6C in Belgrave, was relatively dry and mild this morning (still chilly, but hey no frost or dew to worry about), currently around 13C here in the Dandenong area and around 8C in Scoresby. smile

Increasing high cloud over Melbourne as the trough/low from WA moves across SA into Victoria, with moderate northerly winds. The trough/low should weaken, but still bring a bit of rain over the next 24 hours, but the main storm and cold front are not far behind in the Southern Ocean! smile

WZ has snow down to very low levels next Tuesday for here, and a slight chance of rainfall. Looks better than the last few events for my patch, but still pretty early.

Still looks damn cold on tonights models, not as cold as the 200mtr
snow charts yesterday. As the models do,there flip flopping around a fiar bit but one thing is for sure its going to be a long sustained very cold period from tommoz night all the way through the 7 day outlook!
The coldest front still looks to be sun/tues period, with snow to about the 400mtr level im thinking?
This period could turn into anything smile

Yes! The synoptic charts, ACCESS and GFS are all more-or-less in-line with this event! Not sure about low-level snow, no doubt the potential for it is there and I sure hope it comes off (but I'll let the experts elaborate), but nonetheless plenty of cold air getting ready to blast into Southeastern Australia from Antarctica! May need to extend the thread for a extra few days at the rate things are going. smile

Peaked at 14.9C here in Belgrave around lunchtime. It was sunny for the most part, but cloud increased during the afternoon, making it colder and darker as evening approached. I rushed off to Lilydale an hour after arriving home from Dandenong, and it was a chilly 7-9C for the most part, and still about 8C here in Belgrave atm. The moon was a smudgy ball due to the thick high cloud, but the skies are now clearing and you can see the stars! smile

About to get very stormy, potentially dangerous tomorrow as the first cold front approaches! Razor-sharp pressure gradient ahead of it, putting a squeeze on the northerly airflow, could see winds as high as 100km/h here, so be careful everyone! eek frown

Well what a lovely horrible morning grin

That wind chill really wakes you up - ~5c with >40kph winds from the south. Skies are looking like they're gonna explode at any moment.

Still very blustery here in Belgrave, currently around 13C. Mostly cloudy with sunny intervals, and the odd light rain shower. Also a fair amount of minor wind damage (mainly small/mid-size fallen tree branches) around the place, and we lost power for about 15 minutes earlier.

Getting buffeted by some seriously powerful northerlies, with gusts to 37km/h here in Belgrave! Overcast and dark, with showers skimming over from the west/northwest. Currently around 10C, after a high of 13.8C earlier.

Nice Winters day here, cool morning round 3C, during the day worked at Maffra, Sale and Briagolong with favourable weather - no wind!!

Some cloud as the day went on and as I type the first bits of a gusty change wander thru' from the S/W.

Some beautiful views of the Alpine area today from afar compared to closer at home, with the sun shining on the snow it looked A1 !

Be interesting to see what we are given over the next week.

Up till mid arvo, a pair of nice days out here. Cold NW'ly wind picked up since, a few spits of rain only ahead of tonight's change. Baro has plunged from 1028 last night to 1011 hPa now.
