Models are definitely flirting with something pretty extreme late in the weekend/early next week. Current GFS has sub 520 thickness over the state for several hours early on Monday. Hobart down to 517, with the coldest air right over the central plateau with -8 850tmps and 516 thickness. Not sure the moisture will be widespread enough to make the most of it, but its snow on the beaches territory if there is enough. Current profiles show moisture right through the atmosphere in the SE.

Never mind the cold pulses before that, with a burst on Friday and another on Saturday with a decent runs of -5 850TMPS with some moisture about.

Could end up a bit white around the ranges come next Tuesday.

ACCESS showing 3 precipitation fronts coming through this week . Thursday,Saturday and Sunday. Fast moving
All above fronts from the westerly belt and with some stronger winds
I suppose those rain bands are ahead of each of the 3 quick fire cold pools that follow the rain fronts

Here is ACCESS current timing for these 3 rain fronts and coldpools
rain band..thursday 4pm ....thursday 10am 532 thickness line

rain band...saturday 10am.. saturday 10 am 532 thickness line 524 thickness 4pm

rain band ..sunday 10pm .... 532 thickness 11pm...520 thickness following close behind

Agreed, models looking good for further wild wintery conditions in the coming week to 10 days.

Bring it on. I'd really like a good low level snow event.

Still getting very heavy rain here. Water tank needs it.

Hi all,

Will send Snowies some pictures to put up for me.

If only it was easy to put them up off a smart phone!!!!

Snow has melted heaps today as the wind has been very strong and a max of 1.7 degrees . Now 1.1 degrees a still blowing hard.

About to have a look at the models but sounds great.

Went for a drive this arvo up to the Golden Valley end of Great lake and had my first snowboard for the season down the rd through the shacks next to the haulage rd.

Pine Lake was frozen and some really nice snow still in the trees, and on the mountain ranges were white frozen looking, nearly grey with the Sun setting through the cloud making the hills brilliant orange.

The best bit of our drive was a wallaby hopping away from my ute, then landing in a snow drift and then just sitting stuck for a moment or 3 and then finally getting out!!! poke
Just awsome

Geez I'm out of action for a few days and you go and do all that!!

SF/Dave, you picked a good time to be at the Great Lake grin

As for next week, if you get moisture and the 520 line anywhere near the state - LOOK OUT grin

You are entering the best time for Tassie snow, August/September grin

I look forward to your reports all. Will be interesting to see who gets snow in the next week or so. grin

Morning all,

7 drizzle and calm.

Yet to see Mount Owen since the snow this week. Still hiding in the clouds

Hey DaveM, welcome back. Do you have a note? Your absence was duly noted.

Access has Tassie covered by 520 on Monday. Moisture in the west mainly (as usual) some very cold temps coming your way down there grin

As you will be aware as well, a solid cold air pool over you till then as well. Any moisture up highish the next few days or week likely to be snow. grin

520 line progged to be over southern tas for awhile and 528 pushing in to S Vic! Models downgraded a bit today but still look great! Waiting for tomorrow's runs. Am deciding whether or not to head up high Sunday into Monday, or stay down low and take that chance of seeing snow on the ground down here. Thoughts?

A very strong downgrade this morning imo, access had the 520 ( likely sealevel snow line ) forecast to be over us for nearly 24 hours yesterday, now its just a few hours around midday Monday, really limiting that window of opportunity, with that high ridging in from the west really quickly.

Even if it just ends up being the 524, it has every chance of cutting off the West Coast due to heavy precip in my humble opinion. smile
