I don't know how to read those charts, but it doesn't really matter, but are you saying the atmosphere tomorrow is potentially colder and wetter than 1986 or the other way around?

The cold is deeper this time and the moisture profile is better (on this forecast) which suggests better potential than 86. Though whether that equates to better snowfalls (including in Hobart) we can only hope smile

Tasmania Police have just issued an advisory for ice now forming on Constitution Hill, Midlands highway ( wow ). This juncture is about 500m elevation, Midlands highway major thoroughfare linking north Tas with south.

Really didn't expect that one to fall so soon. Some of the west coast highland routes also deemed to be treacherous.

Yep,

I don't believe Tas Police on that one!!!

Constitution hill if I am right is the hill above Bagdad, major road works up there atm and also very exposed to gusty wind.

If I am right only 328m above sea Level.

Spring hill is 488m and is closer to Tunnack, which is currently 1.7 degrees.

The snowline has descended a fair way down over the last few hours out at Lake Burbury, with flakes at times at the lake level (~230m ASL on Google Earth).

Should be a whiteout there tomorrow!

Agree SF , maybe slightly ahead of GFS 850 temps. Another shower coming through with temp 4.6degrees and falling still.
not bad considering the cold air behind the front hasnt really come through yet.

Still going to be marginal for Hobart for any decent fall as wind direction not favourable for a decent dump in the morning, but still a few cm. Im hoping I'm wrong!!!!!

My little model had Mount Wellington on -1.8 at 1pm (was -2.4) and -4 at 4pm (already -4.2), dropping all the way to -6.7 tomorrow morning. 1 in 20 chance the mountain could drop as low -8.3.

Total Totals are in the high 70's and low 80's today, which is right up there for the measure, the SWEAT index is also over 800 this afternoon/evening.

Atmosphere should begin to stablise pretty quickly from lunch time tomorrow, showers decreasing in length and intensity. Coincides with the upper levels of the atmosphere drying out.

Plenty on the current sat pic, can almost make out the trough predicted for ~10pm.

Snow shower just finished, 1.8 degrees didn't settle, snow settled to 400m around Vinces Saddle.

Mate at Crab Tree just had snow settle briefly under a heavy snow shower on the trapoline.

6.2mm so far
