Hi folks,

We're preparing a new tool for our Pro subscribers (initially) and thought it worth giving forum users an early look.

Weatherzone "Layers" is a spatial data viewer which allows you to overlay data from various sources and, of course, zoom and pan to your heart's content.

Data available includes:
  • Composite radar
  • Weatherzone Total Lightning
  • Satellite (will transition from MTSAT to Himawari-8 within the next few weeks)
  • Forecast models (currently GFS, ACCESS-G, ACCESS-R and ACCESS-C)
  • Observations

Also included is a viewer for NASA's EOSDIS imagery (MODIS etc.).

If you're a Pro subscriber, please go ahead and try it out. http://www.weatherzone.com.au/layers/

For people who don't use the main Weatherzone site so much but are interested, a free 30-day trial of Pro is available.

We'll get the limited range of EC data that's on the main site in there before long but the "full range" is extremely expensive and we've never yet managed to come up with a way of being able to afford it.

Just some feedback.

I am really enjoying the functionality of the forecast model layers, in particular the Totals, Cape and Lifting Index.

Hopefully, WZ are able to introduce 7 day forecast models.

The only thing I find lacking are detailed Skew-T diagrams which we can get from BSCH.

But pretty good and very impressed I got to say.

Just a minor request: - could the location of E Vic towns of Orbost and Cann R please be added to the Vic maps? (eg. VicRadar).

Love the layers, but is there a Tab to overlay road networks?? or have I missed something?

No roads at present, but it's on the list.

Andrew, is the option to view satpic/radar/lightning etc in previous 18 (or even 24) hours a possibility or in the pipeline?
I use this a fair bit on the actual WZ site, but think it would be very beneficial on the layers site, especially say previous 2 hours of satpics...

Hi Tim,

That's available now - hit the cog at the left hand side of the animation control bar to choose the interval etc., then either play or use the other means of temporal navigation (see the help page).

There's one snag in that radar and lightning currently only go back six hours despite the satellite perspective allowing you to choose the past 48 hours. That's on the list to be fixed.

How about metro grams like this!

that would be awesome!

Messed with it a bit today, love it grin

If I could make a suggestion though, maybe a way of setting an origin like on the original radar pages, or if you wanted to take it one step further, maybe another layer that had some basic drawing tools? Just like a pen, a few colours, rectangle tool etc, so you could mark things out. I'm aware there's tools that provide screen overlays to do this, but if you could do it in the viewer directly, it could be quite useful, and still fits with the "Layers" idea smile
