A shame really. I was looking forward to a hot one tomorrow but instead it looks to be warm.

In other news, there has been spitty rain throughout much of the day but not much more than that. Just in the last 5 mins, it got heavier and the road is actually wet now!!

We are now included in the severe storm warning, but not confident of getting anything. Got 3.5mm from showers today and the garden sucked up every bit of it.

The radar is looking ok for the basin in a little while as long as it will stay together.

Yep, am watching keenly, had a brief shower here this afternoon, just enough to wet the ground but not enough to register in my rain gauge.

Got woken up at about 3am this morning with a strong NWer blowing straight through my open window. It had abated when I woke up at 6am.

There's a break in the cloud moving over Sydney now.
The NW wind seems to be establishing itself and is quite strong at Mt.Boyce.

Dare I hope we may get a stinker today? If not a scorcher?
C'mon! I soaked the vegetable garden last night hoping for a hot one.

The "rain" started here about 7pm but it was so light we played tennis comp through it and didn't even think about coming off.

As we finished about 9 it became heavier.

Awfully steamy at tennis last night!! smile But we won so (semi final) so that's ok. smile

About 6.8mm at the airport overnight, town probably similar.

VERY steamy again today, surely a storm later.

Cloud more interesting today than the web cam shot you kindly posted yesterday Homer. smile

My jeans are stuck to my legs, MSI (mouse stickiness index) is extreme. My skin feels DIRTY, that all means that the airports stated humidity of 84% would be pretty right. grin

Temp only 20 but with sun and humidity it feels quite a bit warmer. It really FEELS like we should get a storm.

Meanwhile, I've been chatting in the Tassie thread about snow on Friday. Crazy country. smile

Cloud is clearing here too, should be a fairly pleasant day in Canberra.
Glad you got some rain DaveM, nothing here that registered in the gauges yesterday, the only thing that really registered was all the dust spots on my car from that extremely heavy Virga.

I also noticed the leaves on the odd tree are starting to wilt.

Leaves around here have been wilting for weeks, a big eucalypt in my yard is losing leaves by the bucketload. frown

So far in December, we are running average max temps above our Jan & Feb norms. The coming week has only 1 day forecast as cool as average (26) so the mean for the month will stay "ABOVE".

Nights are just slightly cooler than Jan average.

I think December will be a hot month (comparatively)

Can Nowra get its first thunder storm since last February? I strongly suspect no, in fact I'm going to say 95% chance of NO storms for Nowra today. Cloud fest kills us, then lack of moisture woes later this afternoon. Dewpoints good now on the Tablelands , but they will drop into single figures according to meteye from 3pm this arvo. Cant take a trick this season, is Nowra the only town in NSW without a storm this season? Enjoy the storms Hunter/ Liver pool plains.

M Keene is Marty if my rusty memory is correct. smile

Weird day here, feels like it could storm but no sign yet. Hope we get one before humidity drops later.

Have a good trip home tomorrow. smile

How much longer you in Canberra now? Must be ending soon.

Today is my last working day in Canberra, I head home for good tomorrow morning.

Humidity is dropping fast here, dewpoint is hanging in there though, getting breezy again.

Thought it would be close!! Closing another chapter smile

Cloud disappearing here, storm chances gone now I think for here.

Stepping outside, clearly the humidity levels have dropped. All over red rover.

It feels distinctly like a storm day in Sydney. It's about 31-32 across the Basin, except on the beach. It's humid (dew points about 16). A distinct clearing edge to the cloud mass passed over around 9:30 and it's been mostly sunny since, with scattered high- and mid-level cloud.

The forecast says "Thunderstorms likely in the afternoon and evening, possibly severe." Haven't seen that for a while.

Last night's showers didn't amount to much - about a millimetre or two in most suburbs, 0.8 at OH, which has not had a 1mm+ rain day since Nov 16.

P.S. The Westerly now seems to be picking up.

Confidently predict that by end of season Nowra will still outdo Shellharbour/Wollongong, with Shellharbour / Wollongong scoring the wooden spoon trophy. Although perhaps the Derwent River Valley will still hang in there for lowest storm frequency in Australia.

In a separate post about lightning in General Forum I mentioned that I have not bothered to pull power plugs in my home for at least 20 years ! The lightning has never been that concerning. it was not always like that.

Wow it's so hot here this afternoon with a moderate westerly blowing atm. Much hotter than Albion Park and there's definitely some humidity to go with it too. Nearly feels as hot as the 42C because of the humidity. Thermometer outside says 37C and I'd say it's not that far off the mark, if not correct. You can usually add about 7C or even 8C to Moss Vale conditions like this and a couple degrees to Nowra.

Come on storms!! But like Illawarra posters above, I'm not optimistic at all for storms. Well I'm clearly not the only one in this area complaining about lack of storms so it must actually be so then!

A couple of small cells are starting to appear in the radar. One is now following the well worn course down the Hawkesbury valley after poppoing into existence near Colo, just outside the NW boundary of the Sydney Basin. A bit earlier, a storm popped up close to Culburra Beach (near the mouth of Shoalhaven River) and moved out to sea. Another passed just North of Newcastle.

Hopefully we see more action this afternoon and evening.

Regarding heat, the sea breeze is working its way inland, with OH peaking at 33 around 1:00PM, with places further inland reaching 35-36.
