Hi all

Have just done the return trip to Burnie, where it felt quite warm around midday.
I swear by the time I hit Ridgley it had dropped 10
Showers became heavier as I got closer to home.
Pulled in the driveway 15 minutes ago to find Hail settled around the yard.
Time to light the fire, sit back and watch the wild weather roll through from the comfort of my couch smile

8 and 10mm so far for the day

Hi Payshense,

Yes was on Vinces Saddle this afternoon, attending to a Road Crash Rescue with my local Fire Brigade when a big shower came through with hail. Not enough to make anything go white though!

Nothing at home!

Heavy shower just came through and temp is now only 3.9 degrees.

Nice coat of summer snow to 700m.

Would have settled lower at 4am.

We got down to 2.9 degrees.

Glad to hear of things down there. smile

YEP - well done grabbing that one. All gone on latest images, soon as the sun hit it would have gone rapidly. Would still be in shady spots though.

Gotta love Tassie!!! grin

Hey Dave,

How's things up your way this morning, getting any of this cold air?

Just had another heavy hail shower here, so its not quite over yet.

G'day Payshense, it's about 19 degrees here now but heading to about 26. It will give us a 9 degree morning tomorrow but that's about it. Full sunshine here and we will be back in the 29 to 33 degree range for much of the coming week.

I REALLY would love to feel your nice cool air instead of our constant heat and sunshine.

Heading for 4 days over 30 and today aiming at 29 in sunny Westbury - pretty early in the summer to be seeing that sort of run. Had two days of 25 already. Might be some sort of 'heatwave' record for this time of year.

ACCESS suggesting a deluge for Sunday/Monday but GFS doesn't want a bar of it. Inclined to believe GFS but you never know.

Launceston's five day forecast beginning today is for maximums of 29,29,33,31,30.

The December record for consecutive days over 30+ in Launceston ( records from all recording sites going back to 1885 ) is 4 days in 1943 ( Dec29-Jan 1 ). There have been a handful of Decembers with a 3 day run.

A 5 day day run of 28+ looks fairly likely, can't be certain whether that will be a record because wasn't taking notes on that one, but probably likely.

Much warmer week down there this week. Launnie in the 20's & around 30 for much of the week.

Strahan a bit cooler

Hobart 31/32 on the weekend, getting warm, a bit of a cool down after the weekend.

Enjoy, shame it's not wetter for you though.

Well the heat has really started to bight in hard. Hobart has now popped the 1.0 c over the monthly average despite the last 2 cold spells. Rumors are that X-mas day in Hobart is going to crack 32 degrees , almost unheard of in recent years . Something more akin to a QLD X-mas, So I guess that rules out any snow .
Oh well we all new this was going to be one hell of ride so just have to sit it out. The damage will be done by the lack of rain , any moisture we have had dried in a split second once that last blast of wind went through. Not looking very good for Hydro either , they are about to fire up the old gas generators to replace the lost hydro power. Apparently I heard some of the water storage is less than 45 % at present.
It will want to be a very very wet Winter in 2016. eek

Hydro dam levels are at 26% at present, which isn't as dire as some media outlets have made out. The Bass Strait electricity cable will always assure a secure supply. Exceptions being a very major heatwave in Victoria with brown outs or a failure to the cable.
