Glad you had rain. West coast has done much better lately, at least it's something positive. Hope more soon in the east. Certainly a big turnaround in temps Xmas day smile

Hobart has had some nicer Warm weather the last few days , nothing to extreme. Fire danger is still very high though , todays forecast high has been backed off a bit and looks like Launnie will cop the 34 degree day instead. Still no significant rainfall ahead so far. Cheers and have a good New Year .

Agree H2o very little rain on it's way in the next 2 weeks.

I had 852.0 mm for the year.
If you take off January we only had 620 mm.

So below average by 50 to 100mm overall.

Happy new years to all.

Hi all,

Not much in the way of notable weather in the last week or so.
And doesn't look like changing much in the foreseeable future.

How long till the next reasonable rainfall? Don't hold your breath.

Hobart has started the year with mainly on or below temps , but rain is hard to come by. It's trying pretty hard today , but so far a few very brief trace showers. Not much in the way of rain in the coming forecast either , with a warm to hot weekend on the way. Apparently a few townships in the Midlands are running out of water real fast , Campbell Town ( about halfway between here and Launceston )is one mentioned of late.
Oh well the bonus is the lawn is now officially dust and won't be needing a mow for a long time.

Up here in the north (Lower Barrington) everything is pretty much dust. No measurable rainfall in a while. We were way down on rainfall over winter and now, with no rain in the long range forecast, things are getting pretty desperate. Little hay available and what is available is $15 to $20 a small square bale. Anyone out there know why Tassie is missing out on the rain? It's sure not like it was when I was growing up....lots of rain, cooler weather etc.

Seems it's pretty much the same everywhere.

Hi all, Hobart is about to start a 7 day run of warm to hot weather with no rain in sight. Next Wednesday could be the worse of it with 30 degrees forecast. Topped out at 24 degrees here today the but cloudless sky and searing sun was a sign of what's to come. April seems so far away and with March proving just as hot if not hotter than Summer in recent years we have a long way to go. Let's hope we all make it through without any serious fires taking off.

Well Launceston looks even hotter with the maximum over the next 7 days to average over 30 degrees according to tonight's forecast.

I'd love to see a little drizzle up here. We've had no rain since Boxing Day. It's 5 PM and my Davis weather station tells me it's 30 degrees. My sensor is about 10 feet up under the eave and in the shade. Sure not like the Tassie I grew up in....:-(

Yeah Sam , just had a look at Launceston and it's doesn't look great if you like mild weather. Tassie is really copping it since October , the heat seems to be hanging for several days or so.
Most runs we usually get is two days and then it's gone , this 6 day string of heat business is driving me crazy.
Anyway a forecast of 25 in Hobart today but in the city they ended up near 30 , out in the Northern Burbs where I work it was closer to 34 . The UV level(12) was also some serious searing stuff as well.

Hello my Tassie friends, I'm baaack, much to your misfortune smile

Sounds like all of us are sick of heat and dryness. Give me cool and some regular precip any time.

We have had 11mm so far but that was two showers, hardly even got into the ground. The ground at my house has become water repellant. frown

Any rain runs off it and doesn't penetrate.

Some good thoughts - this Friday is basically half way through Summer and January, then it will be roughly 6 weeks till end Feb - YESSSS!! smile

Sad isn't it!! smile

Yes Dave and probably only 4 weeks or so until the dry should show the first signs of breaking. Topped out at 35.7 on saturday and was 27 or 28 yesterday, back into the 30's today... had a slightly cooler run from New Years Day until mid last week. Warmth has been great for the newly planted veggies as long as I keep the water up to them. No rain worth noting so far this year.

Decembers extremes were a low of 2.6 (after the rain on Boxing day), high of 35.1 on New Years Eve. Had ~35mm for the month, half of which fell on Boxing day. In a cool year I doubt there is a frost free month.

Welcome back Dave , you have been missed and the forum a little quiet in your absence .
Last 2 days in the old Hobart have been nudging towards the high twenties till thankfully the breezes kicked in. No significant bushfires anywhere down here , so far so good. The Tasmanian Government is reluctant to use the "D" word , but other sectors are calling for a drought to be declared.
Wednesday looks the most dangerous for all of us as far as fires go. Launnie looks like it's copping most of the heat of this spell , 31 degrees up there today again I see. The Hobart Hurricanes have lost again frustrating record Blundstone arena crowds, the end of the season for them unless a miracle happens.
It actually looks a bit stormy out there today so just maybe ?? nahh I would be dreaming .
Footnote : More on the Drought Story see Weatherzone news , save me cutting and pasting . tired

Hi all, and Dave poke

Hint of a sprinkle in the forecast for later in the week. Yeah right, that remains to be seen. Anything will be better than nothing.

Stop "sprinkling" in the garden, I can't hold on for a few days. You must be good. smile

Topped at 35 here and no bloody sea breeze like you lucky Tassies get. smile
