Pretty wild for a bit there, good light show, some light rain. Hopefully the beginning of the end for the prolonged dry.

Hobart is getting a few flashes of lightning a little thunder and 3 spits of moisture. Still an amazing and putrid near 29 degrees out though. Sick of having the bathroom floor like the heating is on and having my toothpaste cooked. Even in all the years of living in places like Cairns and Brisbane I have never seen such putrid heat.

No good re the fires Dave!! Glad it is much cooler for you folk this morning.

We had 29 degrees at 11.30 last night but did get to a min of 20 just before 6am.

Snowies, you should see more thunderstorms in the north than you did in Hobart. In my life, I've only stopped the car in one thunderstorm due to lack of vis and that was at the outskirts of Campbell Town. Had some amazing lightning in that one too. grin

Come on H, gone soft after a while in Tassie grin grin I'm with you, no fun in the heat!! frown

Funny today watching all the reporters in Melbourne (Spirit crash) all geared up in Parkas etc. Even saw one reporter in a down jacket.

Crazy country. We are going for about 35 here today with the change turning up this evening or overnight. Temp tonight will be about half of last night and tomorrow 23 - Bliss smile

The 540 line gets awfully close to you guys again next week. Should keep you a bit cooler for a week or so. grin

The sat pic has a beautiful line delineating the more stratified cloud to the speckles behind it. The change in air mass is so sharp in appearance, it's amazing. Currently sitting just west of Strahan. Prepare to receive a wind change P smile

Morning smile

4.7mm

Good Thunder and Lightning shows last night, didn't get any particularly heavy showers. Still a few light showers about this morning.

Just read your post re change Dave... I'll take a look, sure has gone still in the last half hour.

Cool, that line is very distinct.

Going by Obs here on West Coast, winds have been SW since early hours of this morning. About to get cooler however.

Yes P the winds change at the surface level before the upper levels catch up smile

That change in cloud mass is very close smile

Can you just give it a kick along so it gets to me a bit sooner too please? grin

Morning all, The old Hobart was still sitting into the mid twenties till 4:00 am this morning . Wow what a blanket of heat with only 0.6 of rain at 3:00 this morning. So there will be a few grumpy people as sleeping was pretty hard .
The Mountain this morning is covered in mist and it's currently sitting around 17 degrees in the suburbs. The weather god's still refuse to give us any proper rain , but it will be worth the wait . smile

It never ceases to astonish me that most people think Hobart is always wet when the reverse is often way more correct. We folk in here know better don't we!!

Currently a pleasant 16 degrees out in the Hobart suburbs ,with an occasional wind gust and rain shower. Another 0.2 mm to add to the total.
Yes Dave everyone on the Mainland thinks Hobart is always damp , musty and cold. It's more mild, dry and windy than anything else , most of the year.

Hi all

Left the West Coast this afternoon, heading for Cairns. Had good showers this morning before I left, oh so close to hail, and for most of the way to Burnie. Going through the Anthony Road was close to wipers not keeping up, almost Wet Season type downpour. Keen to see rainfall figures tomorrow morning.

Will be watching thread from the other Island for a couple of weeks. Road trip from Cairns to West Coast, Tasmania. grin

Hi all tops around 20 degrees here in Hobart today with plenty of scorching sun. Well I can't believe the outlook and the cool days are set to end tomorrow and it's back to heat once again.
A really bad day coming Tuesday with 31 forecast already. Tasmanian currently has around 50 spot fires going created by the other nights dry storms and lightning strikes. So the last thing we need is more dry heat.

Well the temps are moderate down there this week BUT rainfall is once again pathetic.

How is the fire situation going?

Thick smoke everywhere, Saturday and today up north, Hobart had it Sun and Mon - wind direction blowing it about the state. Mostly from the west coast - last weeks lightning is this weeks thick smoke haze, can smell inside with the A/C on.

The scrub will be unusually dry, so, not a great situation. frown

You need a deluge. But I can't see one in the models. Long term GFS has a cold change in about 10 days BUT we all now how much that can change!!

Hi all

Will try and bring some rain back down with me from FNQ. Had no serious rain up here last few days, a few good showers which I'm sure anyone would be glad to have.

Hit the road this morning, left Cairns, destination West Coast, Tas.

Dave, here's to a bit of rain in 10 days
