BOM have really ramped up the forecasts for the NW, central north, NE,east coast and midland forecast districts, with very heavy falls possible in the NE and E coast districts and heavy rain elsewhere in the north/midlands, but reasonable falls for most of the state. Upwards of 200mm for the NE and East Coat, 100mm or so for the midlands and maybe 150mm in the central north and north west. Hobart could see upwards of 50-80mm with more around the mountain. Either way most places could see more rain in 4 days than they have in the last 4 months. Fingers crossed for the graziers and hydro - they urgently need it.

Hi all.

Snowies, was just reading 4 day forecast for West Coast. With some excitement I might add as I'll be home before lunch after a week on the road. Just in time for the forecast action. 😁

Had a few good storms in Canberra last night. Fingers crossed for some of the same for Tassie in the next few days.

Yes I'm still liking the look of the models for Tassie. The eastern half may finally get decent precip.

Got home this morning to a mild 17, now a very sticky 26 with heavy smoke haze from the many fires around the state.

There are a total of three Emergency Warnings out now, (current at 2pm today) for Temma, Nelson Bay and Arthur River on the NW Coast. From TFS http://www.fire.tas.gov.au/

Locals have been evacuated to a beach as they are unable to leave the area, which is very remote.
ABC report just out. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-01-27/emergency-bushfire-warning-for-communities-nw-tasmania/7116222

Had 12mm from 9am on the 14th to 9am today, not taking evaporation from the Nylex into account. Mount Read recorded 23.4mm for the same period.

Good to hear H.

No sign of rain here yet. Smoke has cleared enough to see the sky, no promising looking cloud at this stage. And nothing on Radar either.

Dave, sure was, 4140klm's according to the trip meter. crazy

Maybe it's just my eyes. Looks like there is smoke visible off the NW Coast on Himawari-8 Sat image.

Still raining in Hobart , just mostly drizzle but great news.

Wow Pay , what a trip and welcome back . Is that 4000km a total of up and back ? I'm probably going to have to do it later in the year as I have to visit the olds in Cairns (Kewarra Beach). What highway did you use to get through VIC and NSW to Qld ? And did you stick to the Bruce going up and down from Cairns.
Cheers H

Big storm cell through the NW at the moment, rain bucketing down with thunder rattling the building here in forth, slowly drifting east. Several mm of rain so far - at a guess.

24 NNE 10-15kts

Smoke haze has all but cleared. Giving way to some dark and stormy looking clouds.

Thunder has started rumbling in the distance. grin
Now for some rain...

H, distance was one way, Cairns to Queenstown. Followed the Bruce down to Brisbane. Then down to Byron and onto Sydney on the Pacific Hwy. From there to Canberra and down to Melbourne on the Hume Hwy for the last leg. Had a few detours on the way to check out a few smaller towns along the way. We had a blast smile
As for which toll roads we went on passing through the Capital Cities. Well that's another story. My partner is at her laptop trying to pay the tolls online. My advice, check them out before you go. crazy

RF, thanks for that link. Good story to make people aware of the fragility of the sensitive forests burning down here.

Just started raining here, power is flickering too grin

Thanks for the info Pay , what a fantastic trip. I'll have to look into the tolls issue , I have one of those toll beeper units that I needed when living in Bne.
Very stormy looking outside.

That's a good looking and fast moving storm system. Hope enough rain to overcome the lightning strikes.

Got hammered here, roads flooded, lot of lightning. BOM have severe thunderstorm warning out for the northern midlands, heavy rain and possible large hailstones.
