Hoping the W coast gets some rains soon, at least the cooler weather makes fire fighting more predictable and productive.

One of Tasmania's rivers (the South Esk river) at Fingal is hovering at moderate flood level, with thunderstorms expected in the area today according to the Bureau.

4.5mm clear and calm

Home: January 2016 Rainfall: 36.9

Mount Read: January mean rainfall 208.8mm
: January 2016 rainfall 68.2mm

Strahan: January mean rainfall 86.3mm
: January 2016 rainfall 32.0mm

Very much way down on mean rainfall across the West Coast. And across much of the Country I would think.

Hi all from Hobart, well we finally got some rain and ended up here in the suburbs around 20mm in total. It's been a lot warmer than the forecast 22 degrees today , a really muggy 27 degrees here with 70 % humidity. Tomorrow looks like the heat will kick on and get near 30 degrees. A few near average days midweek but starting this Friday it is looking like another warm to hot extended spell.

Recorded 160mm in the 3 days, 84, 75 and 1mm. Most lightning and thunder + torrential rain I've seen for a long time. Pretty much soaked in now, already greening up after a very warm day today.

Hobart city looks to have maxed out at 32 degrees , here in the Northern suburbs it's a touch over 35 degrees. Surely we have used up the mean average days over 30 degrees for the Summer period already.

H - yes a very warm day for you. The coming week is warm too with heaps of mid to high 20's. Given that the average is about 21/22, it's a warm week. No rain in the forecast either.

Mr P has found precip though!! smile Well done grin

Just went to check out radar for rain...

West Takone Radar outage. This will be well worth the wait. cool

From BOM http://www.bom.gov.au/weather-services/announcements/

West Takone Weather Radar Replacement

Scheduled Date: February 2016

The ageing West Takone weather radar will be replaced in early 2016 as part of the Bureau of Meteorology's ongoing program to deliver higher quality radar data to North Tasmanian communities. The new radar will have uninterrupted 24-hour weather watch coverage updated at six minute intervals and Doppler capability to provide additional detailed wind information.

The upgrade and installation is expected to take approximately 8 weeks starting in February 2016 during which time radar services will not be available.

That will be a long 8 weeks, lucky it's heading into Autumn when things are USUALLY a little quieter. smile

Will be interesting to see how much better it is. smile

Surfing through BOM site looking for long range rainfall forecast I came across this. Be great if it eventuates. Might have to cart water if this dry keeps up much longer.

Hi all , Hobart currently averaging 25.6 degrees that is plus 4 over and night times are 3.5 degrees over so far. Another warm to hot spell for at least the next 7 days. God this seems to be the never ending story since October. frown
This Sun , Mon and Tues again will bring very high fire danger days. Also no chance of rain either , so it's goodbye to any moisture we did have.
I'll stick my neck out now and say we are going to have another monthly average record the current is 25.2 degrees. confused

Keep your eyes on the 14th/15th, good chance of a snowy change for the peaks and a broad area of much cooler air. Hopefully will help a bit. smile

I reckon this coming week will be your last long period of persistent above average warmth. Let's hope so smile

I don't reckon the average will stay near 25, maybe 23 or so.

Hello all

Starting to get really weary of the dry and humid conditions in Hobart lately.
Day after day is the same and temps have been rarely dipping below 16-17 degrees overnight.

Hopefully autumn kicks into gear early and we get a cooler and wetter March. smile
