Apparently about 25 or so in Albury at the moment.

Remember to keep your speed no more than 2 or 3 km over the limit - they WILL book you if you exceed by even a token amount - been there done that, 3km over in a 100 zone!!

Early indications are that next weekend could be quite hot across a large part of the state, including the coast. At least that's what I'm seeing from the BOM forecasts and also the Access models. It's showing a NW airflow as well as pretty hot 850 hPa temps, and the red thickness line includes most of the central coast areas. So for those who like to go to the beach, next weekend is offering a beacon of hope smile.

Overall there's suddenly not a great deal of cloud cover over the continent at the moment, plus the forecast weather patterns appear quite stable and slow moving, meaning heat will build up quite quickly across the interior - so on that basis the is the potential for late summer and early autumn to still have quite a few hot days if the synoptic pattern favours a NE/NW airflow.

DaveM did you get that pre-autumn cool break? Don't worry I can understand high twenties/low thirties feeling hot where you are, as it's above normal for the prevailing climate there smile

WOW Ron - 10.8 here BUT a big DEW over everything. Soon might start getting a bit of fog of a morning.

Hey GF - it's actually been Autumnal nights over the weekend, couple of 10's & 11's. grin

Usually I look to the middle of the month for a decent hint, might have to wait a couple of days after the 15th this year. grin

Certainly a very warm week (in our terms) this week. Should be a tad warmer up your way. grin

Yes DaveM I hate that kind of weather as well, there has been some large cumulus clouds here moving in from SE earlier, but only a few spits fell out of them, it is very humid here, light SE to E winds.

Sydney's had four consecutive days without rain - a 'mini drought'. It's a benign pattern, partly cloudy to cloudy mornings, sunny afternoons, temp range (19-21) to (27-28) near the coast, only slightly warmer inland. Quite pleasant, if boring to a weather enthusiast. I think warm ocean temps (24+) are boosting coastal temps.

Looks like this pattern continues for another couple of days, with the 'T' word appearing as a possibility in the forecast for Thursday / Friday. After a brief warmup on the weekend, it looks like a significant cooldown early next week, lasting at least 3-4 days.

How has the rainfall situation been across the central tablelands DaveM? Have you had good totals during January? Don't worry, I can understand how 30 deg would feel hot for people in Bathurst, keeping in mind the 30 deg we see in the forecast is the shade temp, out in the sun add several degrees on to it, and you're not really acclimatised for it either smile.

Yes quite hot out here, but it doesn't really bother me, I sort of just expect it to be hot every day. Just a matter of how hot. Any time the sun is out (which is often out here) it will feel hot. Overall I actually don't mind the heat, but I do respect it and I respect the sun. So I try and minimise what I do outdoors between about midday and 4pm, I remember to put sunscreen on and drink plenty of water smile

Sounds like summer in Sydney at its finest! I'm jealous; my sister and her boyfriend are currently spending a few days in the NSW Capital, then onto Brisbane! Lucky them. wink

As for the forecasted storms, all the more shameful that I can't be there. I've only been able to bear witness to one or two proper summer/warm-season thunderstorms in Sydney.

Back on January 12th 2013, I was in Parramatta with my fiancee, and although I was busy, I was able to briefly sneak outside for a peek as a couple of modest storm cells quickly brushed by just to the north, having sprung up over the Blue Mountains and western edges of the Sydney Basin around mid-afternoon. smile

Nothing overly spectacular, especially compared to the action raging further north. But counts for something! wink

I don't really remember seeing any of the storms that struck Sydney on January 13th 2013. I know it was already an overcast day with rain/drizzle but as for the storms themselves, I can't really remember seeing any darkness or lightning activity, or hearing thunder. poke

I'd really love an opportunity to witness some decent severe thunderstorm action in Sydney one day! Even an impressive shelfie bearing down on the City would be awesome! grin

Or at the very least, being at some good vantage point like the Sydney Tower or even out on the plains in Western Sydney and watch some enormous storm clouds erupting high above the Blue Mountains to the west! Even if it meant not being able to go chase the storms, especially if they're in "no-man's land (the region separating the Southern Highlands from the population centres of the Blue Mountains, including Leura and Katoomba), that's okay. smile

Just thought I'd drop in and complement how good this weather has been lately. We had an amazing weekend of weather and the last few days have also been great. And the weirdest part is that all this nice weather has been coming from S to SEly winds, which for them to bring days of sunny and clear weather just doesn't happen. But when they do, it can be amazing as I now know.

I spent Sunday arvo out with mates and we ended up at the lake to watch the sunset and instead of having a howling NEer like most arvos, it was a soft SE breeze which was better than any NEer I've felt.

So no complaints from me, and it looks like another fantastic day of weather today.

Yes ASF, Sydney (and Wollongong wink ) at their finest. And you're right Dave, it has been so quiet here. One thing I have noticed GF, that the sun also feels hotter at higher elevations meaning 30C would feel hotter for Bathurst than for you or me because of the hotter feeling of the sun.

WR - you are spot on, many people are surprised at how HOT say 26 or so can feel here vs their usual haunts. smile

GF - our long term average for Feb is about 27, so 3 or 4 degrees above feels quite warm for us. smile Yes we are less acclimatised to higher temps than you are. Conversely in winter, I would be walking around in a T Shirt when you would have a polarfleece on. smile

We had good rains in January, none so far in Feb. It has greened the place up BUT it is browning off again rapidly. I am back to watering the yard trying to halt the brown, I'd like the grass to get some substance before first frosts kick off in about 7 or 8 weeks (mid/late April).

Rivers are back to only flowing at a minimal rate. Burrendong dam (downstream) is only running about 16% so the rivers have been poor for a long time now.

Having said that, another 30mm in the next few weeks (can't see any though) would be very good for the region and give a lovely Autumn for Rural folk.

About 11 degrees overnight, another decent dew but full sunshine and will get to 30 or a bit above later today. Our run of cooler nights will back off now with slightly warmer nights (still cooler than many areas though) smile
