Still nothing here at UNE Armidale.
Was a few random snowflakes in amongst some sleet just south of armidale (kellys plains) this morning 8am.
I see some showers are coming from the west - see what happens then...

I reckon those next lot of showers coming will be a decent fall. The clouds on the horizon here at Guyra are very dark looking. Has stopped snowing here for a little while now and no settling as of yet. Bring on the next lot!! 😀

Snowing lightly here north east of Ebor for an hour or two. Its very light with some stars visible. Its settling on colder things like the deck and bits of wood, but not on the ground. We'll see how it looks in the morning.

I'm wondering if areas to the south & west of hear are catching most of the moisture that is around.

Its weird I just went outside properly and had a good look around, the stars are out in force, full milky way and the rest, but the flakes keep floating around, not a lot but enough to be definitely snowing. It must be the really cold air hitting the slightly more humid air as things turn more coastal....i guess?? I've never seen it like before this for any length of time.

Forecasts look promising for Walcha and Black Mountain Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. Looks like we'll lack the moisture here when the cold air hits.

Heading off from Brisbane at 5:30pm today, heading for Guyra / Black Mountain / Ben Lomond. Will provide updates as the night progresses. Might run into some of you down there! Also all accomodation for the entire range area is booked out (most likely due to school holidays and social media mentions). I was going to get a motel at Armidale but don't want to risk the New England Highway closing, would rather get up there so looks like a big crispy night in the car with 12V heater wink.

Travel safe ISM. You certainly may see some of the white stuff around 10pm. Here's a good link to a private weather station at Llangothlin: Llangothlin station

It is 1289m altitude

Good luck ISM smile I know what you mean, last year all the accomodation was booked out !! Never had any problems in the past at all with accomodation, and I liked to leave it till the day of the snow event.

That said, there are back roads though they are unsealed and slow going and have to be super careful. We had to stay in Armidale. It would be crispy in the car, as long as the heater wont drain the battery,

For those with an interest in pictures of past snow events at Black Mountain, I have shifted my web pages from TPG to Geocities. Home page URL is:

For last Tuesday's snow, see:

Safe and successful snow chasing to all who are on the road tonight. A light dusting of fine snow over the last few hours at Black Mountain.

I hope you saw some white gold ISM. I've seen some photos from Ben Lomond and there was a minor low level fall as expected. Similar to the other 2 events I suspect... but not as good as the June 28 event.

Would have been bitterly cold out there today!! Llangothlin maximum via the awesome weather station mentioned above... only 3.4C! Guyra would be similar I suspect. Armidale AP max 5.0 and GI Airport 5.8. Apparent temps below 0C all day (but not close to -15...).

Nice photos there from June 28 SnowBM!!

Thanks for the wishes guys! Also cheers Boonah-bBoy for linking the Llangothlin Private station smile.

What a trip!

Headed off at 5:45pm, fuelled up with dinner at the Caltex Roadhouse at Warwick then gunned it down to Ben Lomond. We got sleet as we came into Glenn Inness (was glad the highway wasn't closed). We then got our first white magic falling on the New England Highway on Ben Lomond Hill around 11:30pm, then headed down to Ben Lomond Village. Lots and lots of people in their cars randomly positioned all over Ben Lomond Village, some cars fully loaded with their families too - almost looked a little sus if it wasn't for the snow. Nothing settled by this stage (ground was too wet), we then headed to Guyra. As soon as we got into town, within 5 mins the Flurries started and was just about horizontal with a howling wind. Snow was starting to settle on the coldest / driest objects. Spent a bit of time here, then shot back to Ben Lomond Hill. At Llangothlin it was absolutely pouring flakes, visibility was low. Heavy stuff but still the ground was too damp so wasn't settling. We decided to go check out Black Mountain. About 1cm setteled along the side of the road on Black Mountain road and in the Black Mountain Village. Headed then to the 24hr Roadhouse on the New England Highway where it was sleeting. Found the best surprise here, I discovered Rosies Chicken! Guys all I can say is if your on a future chase down here and want a cheeky feed at any hour head to the Black Mountain Roadhouse, that rosies chicken was 10/10! Felt like I was back in the states wink. They had the fire roaring too. After a good hour here we went back to check out Ben Lomond Hill after hearing reports of settling snow at Ben Lomond Village.

When we arrived snow was now settling (aprox 1cm) around Ben Lomond Hill (0 degrees C), a nice white on the edges of the road and all trees. We went back to Ben Lomond Village again down Inn road, and along Inn road about halfway off the highway was some of the best settled snow so far. Aprox 2cm deep along the road edges. Once we got back into Ben Lomond Village it appeared they only had about 1cm of fallen settled snow, looked like no one had moved from earlier in their cars still positioned all around the place. Shot back up Inn road and parked the car on the side of the road for a rest about 4am where the snow was about 2cm. 4:30am light drizzle started falling, and it started to eat away at the settled snow frown. I was tempted to head up Maybole Road to some higher areas but we were in my mates very low Toyota GT 86 and I remembered Maybole was a dirt road all the way along...so we held off. At 5:15am we decided to see how the GT 86 would go on the dirt in the drizzle, and to our surprise Maybole is now SEALED! Good old bitumen!!! So we headed along and saw some of the best settled falls as first light came around, aprox 2.5cm!!! Almost 3cm in some drifts on the side of the road. Got some snaps and video then headed back into Ben Lomond Village and back to black mountain road house to fuel up (couldn't get premium 98 for my mates GT at the Caltex at Guyra sadly). Most cars in the guyra area had a decent dusting of snow across them, sadly not much of guyra had any settled snow on the ground, must have been still too wet or the majority went as the drizzle came in. Headed off about 9am back to Brissy. It was a light drizzle all the way to Tenterfield where we stopped for breaky. It was about 6 Degrees and amongst the drizzle there was tiny tiny little bits of frozen looking rain ice sticking to my jacket, impressive! Even smaller than Sago Snow.

Got back to Brissy at about 2:30pm! What a trip! Stopped at the top of Main Range at Cunningham's Gap to observe the winds, wind chill was bitterly cold up there!

Hope who ever else made the trip had a great one! Can't wait for another big one like last week or last year!

Great to see the past and present snow photos snow BM smile

Great report ISM. We were at Black Mountain roadhouse last year. We'll have to try Rosies Chicken when/if there is another snow event this year. My brother has a subaru brz, nice looking car:D.

Great pics of the snow!. I couldve imagined the site of all the cars in the village. Maybole road used to be sealed only to Silent Grove farmstay? so maybe with the Windfarm (Chinese Owned), and also exploration for minerals - diamond, ruby, saffire in the area, the local roads such as Inn and Moredun are being widened. Lol so next we'll be dodging heavy vehicles
