With precipitation falling at 2 degrees, it might even be snowing at Mt Boyce (1.080m), so I can easily see it snowing at the higher ground around Sunny Corner (1,200m) and Oberon.

Still 13 and overcast here with spitting rain. OH maxed at 13.8 earlier. If there is no late spike that will make it the second sub-14 day of the year there and the coldest day since June 27 (when 11.7).

It's been snowing here for the past hour. Big wet flakes, nothing settling.

Glad the interesting weather is not starting tomorrow because that's my last day of exams. The weather is free to do whatever it wants after tomorrow since I have the rest of the week off. smile

OMG that is a lot of rainfall, I really can't see that in the models though. Will be interesting to see the next model runs. smile

Yesterday's range only 2-13C yesterday, more like an inland tableland town than 30Ks from the coast as the crow flies.
This would be the 2nd coldest day of the year, after day just before the old Maitland Visitors Centre closed down on 7th July.(no data available).
Looking at mid-teens days the next 3 days, before finally some good stuff of 22-23C on Sun-Mon.

Getting back to some stable weather again today, and certainly by tomorrow looking on the upside of winter.
August has been cool overall, in fact slightly cooler than July this year, and some decent rainfall.
Still, there are just too many days with missing data - either a min or max temp (or both), or the rainfall, for my liking or to make any sense of the long term averages.
Just my rant and whinge for the day, but the sun has still come up today and no doubt will again tomorrow.

August seems to be tracking pretty close to average for temparatures so far in Sydney, although it's been wet.

OH average min/max for the month to date are 9.7 - 18.8, compared to the 1981-2010 average of 9.7 to 18.9. Rainfall at 151mm is nearly double the average (81mm all years or 91mm 1981-2010). In spite of being wet, the month included a run of 15 days with only 1mm of rainfall in total (7th to 22nd), including 12 consecutive dry days (8th to 19th). It also included a run of 9 consecutive virtually cloudless days (> 10 hours sunshine).

For Bankstown it's 6.5 to 18.8, compared to 6.0 to 19.0 (all years 1968-2015) or 6.2 to 18.9 (1981-2010). Like OH, rainfall, at 99mm, is close to double the average.

The last few days of the month will haul this month's temperature numbers up a bit, but not by much (about 0.2 going by the forecast).

August was really wet last year as well, perhaps this is a new trend..? August is traditionally the driest month here.

Some really strangely low dew points here yesterday, into the negatives even with a seabreeze but yet other coastal locations were nowhere near that.

The weather stabilized for a good weekend but the wind chill was around 6 degrees here today... But looks like the cold/wet conditions are setting in again.

August was wetter here last year than this year. So far 78mm for the month - slightly drier than normal. You wouldn't know it though with overflowing dams, strongly flowing springs and sodden, muddy ground. Gorgeous weather this weekend. Still some snow patches left on the southern side of our hay shed from last week.

Close to a frost this morning, only 2C on the way to work, through Branxton area. (about 5C driving past Maitland Airport - but minimum there is less than 2C).
Winter certainly is dying hard right now, but looking good for the rest of the week.

To me it looks like there are two events:

1. The remains of the cold front now decaying over South Australia, moving in from the West, bringing widespread rain to NSW, especially over the South. There is a 50mm bullseye on the SW slopes on the 31st.

2. Meanwhile, a low forms over Central Australia on September 1. It rapadly intensifies and moves SE'wards, crossing into the Tasman near or South of Sydney on the third. A broad band of the state from the far NW to the Southern half of the coast get 25mm+, with a broad band of 50mm+ inland. This may or may not hit the resorts hard.

It's unclear what happens after that. GFS hints at a cold front developing behind the low (by then in the South Tasman) on the 3rd, followed by the resumption of a Westerly pattern. Access has a belt of high pressure further South, with Easterlies and maybe ongoing coastal showers.
