Great shots Eddy!!

Currently just 17.0 deg's here still. I think the thin veil of high cloud is just taking a little edge off the heating.
Virtually no breeze. A perfect spring day.

Nice photos as usual Eddy smile

I have tennis tonight so it won't be today - BUT I will try and get some photos in the next few days for you to look at smile

Greg - wow, my knowledge of mushrooms/toads not great at all, I really only know the "normal" mushroom in the field. If I saw those ones of yours I would have assumed them inedible, obviously however, you know a fair bit more than me. grin

Taste similar to "common" mushrooms or different again?

They are one of the best mushrooms but can't be cultivated so are very difficult and expensive to buy. Similar to common mushrooms.

Around here we get saffron pine mushrooms, slippery jacks, boletes, morels and also plenty of death cap mushrooms. and yes, magic mushrooms but you need some cows for that.

Didn't you hear the story about death caps being sold at woolies accidentally?

On Saturday I travelled the length of the Hunter Valley from Newcastle to Aberdeen then turned off to Moonan Flat and up into the Barringtons. The weather was perfect - a chilly morning then clear blue skies.

One thing very noticable was how lush and green everything looked, a contrast to previous times I've been in the area. In particular, the Hunter River in its upper reaches around Gundy was high, muddy and swift-flowing. There was evidence (e.g. flattened reed beds) that it had recently been much higher. It was all as green as the English countryside, complete with babbling brooks.

The weekend weather was very much in two halves, with solid grey dome skies on Sunday (very English again). The cloud had arrived by mid afternoon on Saturday in the Upper Hunter. I didn't see any rain until Sunday morning. Persistent light rain started in Newcastle around 9:00 Sunday and followed me on my drive back to Sydney. The rain eventually stopped mid evening, adding up to about 14mm at Chatswood) for the day.

It's really nice up there at the Barringtons, although I haven't been to the main part of it. The area that I went to was Chichester State Forest which is south of the high plateau. smile

Still plenty of lightning out west tonight, and there's flooding out at Broken Hill. Heaps of road closures across the western side of the GDR on Live Traffic. This spring rain really is quite amazing and has broken much of western QLD out of the drought that they've been in for a few years.

Awesome pics Ed, amazing that you got the ISS like that.

Our BOM seem to have missed the 1 on their readings. They say 9.8, but I have measured 19.5 so far which would be more realistic. It has absolutely teaming down since last night. My backyard is under water. Their gauge must be blocked!
Duane.

Still yet to make it to the top of those Barringtons, despite obviously being relatively close by compared to other forumers, snowchasing sounds fun but too worried I'd get stuck up there. (and even though Malcolm Naden is long gone from up there)
Weather still on the mediocre side, was supposed to be 22C, said it reached 21C, but 24 graph only shows a spike of 20.2C.
Mid 20's is not far away though!
Looking at Saturday or definitely Sunday.

Hey Duane - wet underfoot - big change from earlier in the year!! smile

The Upper Hunter areas of Merriwa, Murrurundi etc would all be looking excellent as well now.

Interesting fact for September so far - the warmest Obs Hill has been for the month so far is only 24.6c. Wednesday 28th is the most realistic chance of getting warmer than this - depends on seabreeze timing really. However, I can't recall the last time the highest its been in September has been so low - probably have to go back over 20 years.

There are some interesting average figures around greater Sydney for September 2016 at present. Despite the lack of warm days, the coastal areas are still above long term averages. Totally different matter in the west however, well under average.

Obs Hill is running warmer than the same month last year (which had a high of 29.8C).

Interesting day in Sydney today. The forecast was for a simple 'rain' but I can see plenty of blue sky and it's already nearly 20C. The forecast has been updated to 'afternoon rain'.

I don't think it has been above 18C at my place, and isn't in the forecast. It has been a cool spring so far, the temperature in my cellar has been stuck on 13C for a couple of weeks.

For those who were worried about me I survived the mushroom feast last night. My wife refused them, thought they looked unsafe.
