I hit a top of 24.4C here today in the early arvo before the temp slowly cooled off and the airmass dried out. Meanwhile Sydney Ap hit a top of 27.0C, which was 2 degrees warmer than most sites in the Sydney Metro and it was in fact the warmest maximum temp in NSW.

Very windy and quite cool here tonight. The charts for the next couple of days are looking distinctively wintry but it will still be pretty mild along the coast since it's October.

Wowzers, forecast for next Monday in Sydney is 34C! grin

NSW Severe Weather Warning: Damaging Winds

Source: Bureau of Meteorology

For people in the Metropolitan, Illawarra, Snowy Mountains and parts of the South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and Australian Capital Territory Forecast Districts.

Issued at 8:42 pm Monday, 3 October 2016.

STRONG WINDS IN SOUTHEASTERN NEW SOUTH WALES

A cold front has moved through New South Wales, with a strong pressure gradient behind it. This pressure gradient is causing strong winds over the ranges and parts of the southern and central coasts.

DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h have been observed and are expected to continue this evening.

Winds are expected to moderate Tuesday morning but may strengthen again Tuesday evening.

Locations which may be affected include Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Katoomba, Goulburn and Cooma.

90 km/h wind gusts were recently observed (at issue time) at Molineux Point and Bellambi.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid on 131 388, or Endeavour Energy on 131 003 or Essential Energy on 132 080, as shown on your power bill.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.

Finally a damaging wind warning. It's seriously beyond a joke here tonight, and I can hear it getting worse as well.

Edit: 98km/h gust at Bellambi!! shocked Stronger than any westerly we had in winter

A bit off topic and uninteresting to most, but this strong wind lately has virtually flattened the surf to nothing. I went for a look at South Beach in the Gong on Saturday and waves would've been 10cm tops. The primary swell that day was from the west, thus not making it possible for any waves to form.

That wasn't a good sound, I think a few roof tiles just got wedged out of place... Must be over 100km/h now, this is downright scary- there's banging outside with every gust. Awaiting the 11pm update...

WOW, yeah 109km/h at 10:50pm. It's died down a little now in the last few mins but there are still some serious gusts here.

Pretty wild in Syd, can't imagine what it's like down in the Illawarra. Looking forward to that 34C, a warm spike would be great about now.. been a slow warm-up so far.

Yeah it certainly has been a pretty slow start to summer. Will be interesting to see if summer continues after the warmth or whether we plunge into cold conditions again.

Edit: Just checked outside and tree branch from the tree outside my window came down- must've been what the banging was. Thank goodness we don't have eucalypts in our year.

It got to a high of 9C at our place yesterday. Showers moved in in the afternoon with small hail. We drove to Canberra last night for a couple of days break. It's pretty wintry down here this morning, but likely warmer than home.

It has been annoying windy in Newcastle for the last few weeks. I don't know how the trees have any leaves left, they have all surely ended up in my pool.

Wow RP at that wind gust. The worst of weather in my mind is the heavy wind.

Quite a cool breeze out here today. However we will finally get a 20 degree day on Friday and indeed a run of + 20's - Wow VERY late in timing that first 20.

Yeah Dave pretty amazing, you'd hate to live here or in Newcastle. Bathurst seems to escape the worst of the wind.

I'm surprised that you didn't get your first 20C on Sunday, but sure enough only 19.8C. smile

Pretty breezy here this morning but nothing like last night. Should be a really pleasant day if the wind holds back.

Very blowy again this morning here in Kingsgrove too, but not as bad as last night. The SWW says we can expect the wind to pick up again though. According to the stats, it says the feels like is currently 19.3, doesn't feel like 19.3 to me though, feels closer to 15!!!....hahaha

You must be looking at the WZ feels like because the BoM apparent temperature seems to be a lot different. Out feels like is 18.6 (same as 11am temp), but apparent temp is 8.9. I don't quite understand the difference, I think the latter takes wind speed into account.

It was pointed out on ski.com.au that Buladelah has 40C in the forecast for next Monday. They often overdo it there, can't see it getting anywhere near that.
