Blew pretty well here too last night - rain was blowing horizontally (or close enough) to wet me as I walked in the bedroom to close the windows a bit.!!

And our winds were only about 60 odd km - that's enough thanks - you can have your stronger bursts to yourselves smile Had enough of them living in Tassie. Speaking of Tassie - Duane - you might get a 6m swell with any luck tonight grin Been there done that one too!! grin

About 3mm here last night and very blowy. A min of about 3.

Wind QUITE fresh this morning. Full sun but my feet are chilly.

We get our first 20 tomorrow and it marks the start of a run of 20+ temps.

Humph - you can shove ya 30 for here grin Gotta get used to 20 first grin

Yeah Dave that trough came thru last night with a bit of a punch! Formed quite a nasty squall line further south of us...knocked off a school roof at Canowindra apparently! Orange AP gusted to nearly 80kph around 10pm with about 14mm of rain (only 8mm at home so it was stronger as you went south). There was squally rain showers for over an hour as it went through.

I got 6mm here, my valley is fairly protected here from the SW so the wind wasn't too bad. A couple of years ago I got an attachment for my chainsaw that helps mill trees into even planks. Ever since I have been waiting for one of my big Red Stringybarks (E. macrorhyncha) to come down in a storm so I could mill it for timber, red stringybark is good quality timber. Usually they will come down in a storm when the leaves are wet and the roots lose purchase, I thought this winter would be a sure bet with all the rain and wind. Of course now that I want one to fall they refuse to come down, I think that's called sod's law.

6mm is a good fall greg; most official gauges in the eastern CT's only registered 3-4mm. Obviously not enough to upset the macrorhynchas though! I had a small albens come down several weeks ago in an overnight storm on very soggy ground. It was only abt 6 yrs old but with quite a dense canopy. I suspect it hadn't rooted out properly and it did appear that way when I dug it out.

It's freezing too, dropped from 21C to 12C!!

I drove down to Mount Pleasant lookout (just south of Kiama) to watch the action come in. Saw several power flashes at Gerringong - tree branches on power lines?

It did seem to come through that area stronger than back at home at Mount Warrigal.

Freaky watching rain while moon shining brightly among stars.

Models seem to be downgrading Monday's heat a bit, so 30 for Bathurst is unlikely now. The coast boasts the most toasts- now there's a light and fluffy headline for Weatherzone news. It's quite amazing how Bathurst hasn't cracked 20 yet; even Mt. Boyce did it last Sunday (a weak mixing day to be fair, though).

My place cracked 20 on Sunday, though at 750m I am a bit higher than Bathurst. It is often a bit warmer here on a sunny day as the valley walls trap the heat, Bathurst is more open so the heat can't accumulate.

Quirky stat of the day: it has not yet reached 30 this spring at any NSW site. This is a record (there is only one previous instance of a 30-free September, in 1976, and in 1976 the first 30 was on 1 October).

Thanks for that, wasn't aware of it but it's not surprising. The inland hasn't had the opportunity to warm up at all, and coastal valleys can't quite produce enough of their own heat this early in the season. I note that the satellite shows a near cloudless Australia for the first time this spring, and just like that, we have some heat.

BTW, Blair, did you end up winning the AMOS weather tipping competition?

Cheers Blair, excellent to hear from you grin

No wonder we struggled to get a 20, got close, 19.8, but not actually there so far. Tomorrow good chance of being the first. smile

Mount Gingera in the Brindabella Ranges has Spring snow. Snow has fallen twice on the higher ACT ranges in the last four days and the wind is blowing the spots of Dalmatians.

... and now for some unexpected weather happenings.

Here in the NW of the ACT we are without telephone or our regular internet service for a few more days to come. Rain got into one of Telstra's systems and short circuited their works and my neighbours and I are on courtesy phone hot spot supports ... until repairs are done.

Some one in our neighbourhood parked last night in a '30 minute zone' at the local shops only to turn up this morning to find a large Brittle Gum resting on the back seat. It pays to read the signs.

Warren.

My phone and internet were out all last week. Only have a cheap optus mobile which wasn't much use. I was thinking of getting the new satellite NBN but yesterday I read that the satellite was out last week as well so that seems pretty useless.

Appears sydney will be somewhere between 32-34C for Monday, very brief as we're straight back into a low teen minimum by Wed.
