Interesting. Did Donald Trump tell People magazine in 1998 that if he ever ran for president, he’d do it as a Republican because “they’re the dumbest group of voters in the country” and that he “could lie and they’d still eat it up”?

Very believable, but according to this, it's bogus:

http://www.factcheck.org/2015/11/bogus-meme-targets-trump/

But there's more than enough to demonstrate what an egregious buffoon Trump is, how unsuited to the Presidency, much of it out of his own mouth.

My thoughts exactly ! and Britexit was a similar movement.

Now to convince our lot that they represent the people.

On the subject of memes, another one is that the bully Biff Tanner in the "Back to the Future" franchise was based on Donald Trump:

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/10/21/how-back-to-the-future-predicted-trump.html

Bob Gale, one of the creators of the franchise, gives support to this. In the 1989 film Back to the Future II, in one timeline Biff had become rich and powerful, a gambling and entertainment czar, transforming Hill Valley into a corrupt, crime-ridden wasteland.

So is it true? Or was there a bit of post-hoc analysis to make a political point?

In any case, I fear that Trump might do to America what Tanner did to Hill Valley.

I just heard a great comment. That the media took him literally but did not take him seriously. His followers took him seriously but did not take him literally

Yeah. The irony is hillarious. I can understand that they might be pissed that Hillary can win the popular vote but lose the election but if they really cared they would have been protesting before the election. They only care now because they lost.

You can't really look at a popular vote, how many Trump supporters didn't vote in blue states and vis-versa and of course there would have been no campaigning in such states

"When all the non-racist, non-mysoginist, non-homophobic, non-bigoted ordinary everyday people get sick of you calling them racist, mysoginist, homophobes and bigots that they go out and vote against your candidate, do you:

A. Reevaluate your personal conduct and strategy of convincing people to share your politics?

OR

B. Call them racists, mysoginists, homophobes and bigots and yell at them even more?

According to my timeline you chose B. And that is why your candidate lost"

Not my post but it came up on my FB and It really nails the issue.

I'm impressed with the restraint, professionalism and credibility of our Foreign Minister Julie BISHOP.

While some of the leaders were bad mouthing the potential POTUS she didn't go down that path and has today shown some real leadership potential for Aus.

We are lucky to have her !

The irony... The world's self-proclaimed leaders of democracy and free speech choose only to make their voice heard after the fact i.e when it doesn't count

Clearly a significant proportion of the country voted for Trump (ironically the significant minority) however the Australian media has reported predominantly the anti-Trump sentiment. Is this because the media out of USA is focused on the East and West coastal areas where pro-Clinton and anti-Trump support is the strongest?

I am not a Trump fan but I have to admire his success as an entrepreneur and businessman. On the other hand I struggle to identify redeeming qualities in Hillary. She claims to be a "champion" for women however her passive demeanour in the aftermath of Bill's affair degraded her authority.

Disenchanted people around the world are tired of politicians. The constant disconnect from reality and repeated issues with corruption and scandal, while living a life of privilege, promotes discontent. Unfortunately for Hillary she could not separate herself from this stereotype and in my eyes was the "champion" for politicians and self-interest.

The world is in for a turbulent few years and I for one will observe with interest the political landscape that will evolve with President Trump. I hope collectively we can take the plunge and emerge safely on the other side however I reserve my concern......

Sorry, can't see much merit in people who are getting credit for good hindsight, especially when it's their job to waffle on with "entertaining" scenarios.

They get the odd one right, how many wrong ?

You never know ,Look at Ronald Reagan ,They said oh he's and actor how can he run the country .He turned out pretty good .I think this is what people are hoping for .When you know what's coming with Hillary Why not take a chance ,They know Trump is a showman and willing to do deals ,The rest is a guess.

Pretty much agree with this. I find it a little amusing all the people complaining about Trump winning when they haven't given him the chance yet. With Hilary, you knew exactly what you were going to get, and those weren't necessarily good things.

Exactly, the world has been waiting for this change, not just the US.

I am excited as I'm hearing conversations where people are talking about "change", not the same business as usual President.

The Trump card smile

Considering the relative peace that the world has enjoyed since WW2, I'd suggest that business as usual would be a good thing, and change is something to be concerned about.

Was Reagan a gov in California first? If so he had some political experience prior. Trump is a deal maker so interesting to see how it plays out.

I would say if you lived in the regions the US has been destabilizing for the last 30plus years change could be a positive. I think Europe will be annoyed though. They really wont like having to do their own dirty work if trump follows through with his threats.
