Wasn't it just Mad Elf. Best one in ages.

It'll be another cold one tonight. 14 degs already here, and cooling fast. We're on track for record cold monthly minimums at Murwillumbah.

Yeah was a brilliant sunset. Initially it looked like the cloudband might be clearing a bit late for us but it ended up working out perfectly. I took a bunch of shots from Spring Lake including this one. Click on the photo to see another I put up on my FB page earlier:

Sunsets are nice and all... but hopefully later in the week we might finally see some quality storms in SEQ. (Although the action on the Downs/towards Kingaroy the other day was a good start) Fingers and toes crossed!

Cheers,
James

14.9 degs in Bundaberg today. From what I can see it easily breaks a record that goes back 57 years.

Nice one James and thanks Ken, the BSCH high cloud forecast was pretty much spot on. I was unsure around midday yesterday whether the edge of the high cloud would leave a gap on the horizon, and i'm still trying to work out how far west high cloud has to be before it starts to block the horizon.

I'm presuming that would vary depending on the height of the actual cloud. I've always used Warwick as a gauge.

If it's clear skies west of Warwick around sunset, then generally you can see the gap from the coast, but it sometimes doesn't work that way.

There were times were I have seen high cirrus cloud down south thinking it was over the Byron bay area, then looking at the satellite showing it was actually over coffs harbour.

ColdFront: Nah Bundy didn't break their record (17.2C at the old post office site and 18.4C at the airport) because observed min/max temps are from 9am to 9am and they're already at 19.7C as at 8am this morning.

Fair bit of frost reported from around the traps this morning. Some of the min temps from overnight/this morning:

1.8C - Oakey
1.9C - Wellcamp Airport
2.4C - Applethorpe
3.6C - Dalby and Warwick
4.6C - Kingaroy
5.8C - Amberley
6.4C - Beaudesert and Toowoomba

Yeah I just posted that up in the Bundy thread after gazzatsv made mention of the time slots. I'm more than happy that it didn't as it means a beautiful morning here this morning, unlike that which I woke to yesterday. Still, crazy day time temps for late October.

My knowledge is not great when it comes to analysing upper air temps but I was wondering if they are below average as well. If so does this not stand us in good stead for any up and coming storm events. I know this is the reason why we get more hailstorms during Spring because of the left over cold air in the upper layers following winter but in previous years we have very hot weather during September and so on. Any thoughts on this?
