Not everyone lives beyond the sandstone curtain, Dave smile. It's still pretty dry on the coast despite some handy falls on Saturday, and hazard reduction burning is continuing today.

The mean temperature here so far this October is 17.1C, which is around half a degree below normal. This will nudge up in the coming days, so the month will probably finish close to normal. It's very hard to get a below average month these days on the coast.

Apart from Darwin, Sydney is the only capital city running above average for maximums so far this month. I just don't believe that at all as its felt cold this month. I think its time to move the Obs hill site.

grin CS22 - will be interesting to see what does eventuate over the next few months, whether it stays relatively coolish or flips the other way smile Only time will tell. smile

And I notice your naughty tongue stick out as well - and enjoy the banter smile

Humph - Sandstone curtain!! A new one from you, a very descriptive lad as usual!! smile

Full sunshine, pleasant breeze, temp around 19 or 20, feels hotter in the sun. Rather pleasant day.

I can't take the credit for that one- it was actually a Bathurstian acquaintance who came up with it. He referred to it in the context of events in Bathurst- "there's life beyond the sandstone curtain, you know."

OH is a strange site. One of the warmest places on the coast when the sea breeze isn't active and one of the coolest when it is. Long term averages are very long term, nearly 160 years. The 19th century seems to have been a different country climate-wise, while I feel that the impact of a site move in 1917 made such a difference that temperature records before then should be excluded from current averages (personal opinion).

In any case, this month has felt cool for October, in spite of a few days 29+.

Parramatta might be a better indication of what it's been like in Sydney. There, it's tracking 11.5 to 24.0, -0.5 to 0.0 compared to long term (since 1967) averages. So basically average, after a run of 'hot' Octobers. It's been dry, having received only 14.4mm so far this month (21% of October average).

Warm SWer here this morning which is an odd wind direction in this area; it is usually west or S/SSW when there's potential for a true SWer.

Mostly cloudy though, but I'm quite happy to have a warm cloudy day.

Fourth frost in a row. Can't remember that happening in late October before. October average max running at about 5 degrees lower than 2015.

Ron - that's a lot for October!! We've been close and had small bits of frost but nothing like you up there.

We have had 8 mornings of 2 degrees or below this month, coldest though about -0.5, nothing spectacular for us smile

Does anyone here think that the "chance of a storm" the BOM have in the forecast will actually happen?

If Dural is where you live, then perhaps the only part of Sydney in with a chance.

Better luck for places like Tocal - Dungog, that sort of area.

Nice n sunny out here, heading for 24 or 25, I don't expect a storm out here today. Will keep an eye on the ranges to my east for any build up I can push to the east for you.

Check out the Access chart for the 5th November at t240+ before it changes, nice big low there with lots of rain! Can't be taken seriously this far out of course, but a trend worth watching as there has been something in the outreaches for a while now that would bust the coastal dryish spell of this month.

The southerly may just provide enough moisture in western Sydney, especially if the temp and dew points keep rising. Pretty big CAP to break too so probably nothing will occur there. As others said, ranges or Hunter will more likely get something.

Anyway quite cool and cloudy here today, your typical spring scumtherly. Summer ones usually have the temp over 20 and DP's in the very high teens.

I don't think the Hunter will see much today, maybe the upper Hunter around Scone could see some action.
The southerly change is just south of Port Macquarie and there appears to be a few cells firing up around Mt Seaview and the Dorrigo plateau.
