Can't be sure of accuracy but map on emergencyvic has the Parsons Rd. fire round 9km x 9km, ie 80sq km's.

Not a good way to start the fire season up that way.

Lightning yesterday/today ?, bldy N. wind gusting to 65kph at Swan Hill wouldn't be helping either.

Hope everyone stays safe.

Parsons Rd fire was first reported as a header fire spreading. Big Desert fire, was lightning today - can even see specific strike on WZ

Also here is today's grass curing map. Shows that most areas North of the decide are now mostly dried out. Still a dry week this week for those that miss the rain with lots of sunshine.

To clarify, I had it wrong - the area on the emergencyvic map this arvo' was possible impact area and not the area burnt, the actual area burnt is reported to be 322Hec. on the e/vic site tonight.

Here is a couple of photos of the Big Desert fire - from Facebook Delwp. Shows a great indication of the effect of the SW windchange. Now 1000ha and still going.

Things continuing to dry out around the state and with plenty of sunshine over the next week this will continue. We are about a month behind last year and if it stays that way come Christmas week most areas will be in the 90% cured range or above

Latest Grass Curing Index below. Most of the drying out this week has been in central areas. Also no areas now at 0% curing so drying out process has started state wide.

Next Spike day is this Thursday, with Severe FDI and TFB likely for the Mallee again (Maybe pushing into Wimmera if conditions worsen just slightly)

No TFB tommorrow FDI at Very High before the rain arrives. Plenty of small fires in the North East today, aircraft being sent to a number of them.
