As Homer said, those storms died off quickly, possibly when they came off high ground and also as they hit the sea breeze. there looks to be nothing more at this stage.

Here is a view from the North Shore around 3:00PM. The cell was probably the one near Kilnura in the Central Coast hinterland.

The outlook for the next week or so looks fairly unstable, although sea gales and Southerlies might suppress storm chances near the coast.

EDIT: Re the storm season so far, it depends on where you've been. The Hunter seems to have had a much better season so far than Sydney. My sister who lives in Newcastle's Western suburbs confirms this. In Sydney it's been fairly indifferent. I had one storm in September, none in October and four storm days in November, none of them more than about a 3 or 4 in 10. Meanwhile, the Illawarra seems to have mostly missed out.

Steve,

There still seems to be some development happening but I'm guessing it's false hope. Not sure if you can see them from your vantage point.
I just went outside again and I could see some localised towers building.
There's still a small cell or two way to the west, but like you, I'm guessing that'll be it for today.

Nice pic Steve.

This afternoon is rather humid but has cooled down a little after the storm that came through. Temp is only 23C but it feels warmer than that. Quite amazing how much it has changed in the last 2 weeks. Before I left for Bowral on the 14th, we were getting very few humid days and now the dew points are easily getting into the 20s. Temps have not changed but yet 2 weeks ago it felt like spring and now it's proper summer weather.

Warren, yeah there have been quite a few storms on the ranges but the constant weak shear has meant that they've stayed there unfortunately.

Wonder if that weak southerly late tonight/early tomorrow morning could trigger anything.

Well that was a surprising little thundery shower. It didn't look like anything but started rumbling away then came some moderate precip with big drops.
Must have developed straight above head.

That was a lovely little surprise ... powering up over the sea now. This pic is from Beacon Hill with lovely golden illumination from the setting sun.

As I was leaving Darling Harbour I could see a nice tower just slightly illuminated.

I would've expected all activity to gave collapsed but now I'm not sure if something still could pop up.

Big flash from the cell that developed over the airport. Would be fun coming in to land in a plane - that developed out of nowhere

Interesting out there atm. That cell that developed over head earlier is still flashing away and I can see it flashing away to the south with another cell brewing over near Oatley now.

Ended up with 4.2mm in a short period of time from the cell earlier.

Hi Marts, I can see that cell flashing away from here, looks reasonably active?

Its been a bit disappointing on the storm front in this neck of the woods and the upper Hunter has done ok recently!!

Today was one of those days, cells started to fire reasonably early, but they died in the butt when they hit the sea breeze.

Warm and calm now, about 23 degrees. There's distant lightning to the South. A veritable zoo of small cells has developed out to sea off Sydney, moving East.

Wicked lightshow for a few hours.

A very strange afternoon. Right on dark the clouds just exploded on the coastal fringe. Was pretty cool to watch. You could tell it was going to happen.

Awesome to kick back and enjoy hundreds of CGs in the distance.

Looks like our summer pattern is getting set, southerly every 2nd-3rd day.
Southerly arrived here about 6.30am and now the sky is nearly fully covered in scud!! Hopefully this afternoon this southerly will vanish.

And this from the BOM forecast for the Hunter, issued at 5.15am

Winds north to northwesterly 20 to 30 km/h tending west to northwesterly 15 to 20 km/h in the middle of the day then shifting east to southeasterly 15 to 25 km/h in the early afternoon.

I think they forgot to check some obs around the place!! crazy

All that stormage was east of us. Not an unusual thing though.

Full sun out here again today, morning about 7, heading for about 28.

Getting to 30+ from Friday.

The southerly came through at about midnight around this area. It was sunny when I woke up but it's slowly clouding over. Is it still sunny in Sydney?

Lots of flashing out to sea last night, and some of it was very bright. I was out driving then and I nearly was going to pull over and watch the lightshow but I wanted to continue driving and there were no nearby vantage points.

Once again it has been a very dry month here with only about 31mm falling so far compared with an average of 85mm. The fire danger is still very imminent if we get a decent hot spell. I reckon if we didn't have the negative SAM, the heatwave at the end of the week would be impacting our part of the world, but instead it will affect Brisbane and surrounds.
