Hopefully I will see some myself this weekend.

Shikes Scott12, that is awful. Because of that cyclone, Innisfail was rebuilt and now is the Art Deco town of Australia cos it was rebuilt in that time.
However, I am sure the residents at that time were not thinking of our future interest in architecture, poor buggers.
Even though we had interesting weather in Vic/SA - we were close to the border, thinking of those terrifying TFB (Total Fire Ban) days with a strong northerly and so, so hot - we had a fire a couple of years ago - the wind and dust made visibility nought - there was a fire, the people down wind in next town could smell it, so triangular sort of configuration and driving around and lo and behold, a fire raging in the scrub. Those sort of days, a lot of people just shut the curtains, crank up ac and watch telly - happened in Horsham, people got a knock on the door - get out! They had no idea. Burnt a lot of houses. I was always sniffing the air and waiting. Yes, I don't miss that scenario. Loved the CFA though - adrenaline, its a massive drug.

Don't forget that a lot of those structures were barely lean to buildings back in the day Kowree. The storm was likely similar in strength to Larry. If Darwin got hit by another Tracy type storm today there would be much less structural damage.

Hi Kowaree. Depending on the structure you live on anything up to a cat 3 could be considered exiting, maybe even fun but over that and it really becomes a worry. If however your abode is not structurally sound or you have chosen to live in a surge zone then even a weaker cyclone can be a worry. Having said that i would take a cyclone over a bushfire any day of the week.

Looks like the likelihood of La Nina developing in the coming months is now considered low and the BOM's ENSO outlook has shifted from La Nina Watch to Inactive.

Another hot, dry boring month!!

Seriously, its December and we have had barely a decent storm on the table lands and zero in Cairns. It is times like this when I consider moving to SEQ simply because the sh**y wet seasons are no longer worth the awesome winters. I'd rather freeze down south knowing we get decent storms in summer. At least El Nino is on the way...

I am with you on this one BG, IMHO for us if a 4 or 5 crossses North of us here we are in big trouble....If the big ones keep rolling in South of us it is better, however it means our Dear friends to the South cop it and I do not wish that upon anyone.

Showers starting to appear on radar. Hopefully, they can build in structure over the next few days. The weekend looks like our best chance at some reasonable shower activity. BOM's even forecast "Thunderstorms" cough...cough!!

Yeah HF, i noticed those light showers even on the 64k earlier but didnt want to jinx it! They've pretty much evaporated from the 64k now so jinxed it somehow anyway.

Felt humidity creep up a bit today before the breeze finally kicked in.

Definitely a solid band of east west cloud now above the continent. It is beginning. Now we just have to do a dance to bring it down smile

Certainly becoming active with convergence to our north BG. The weekend is still looking positive for some reasonable falls along some parts of the NTC.

Models are also showing interest in a Low developing in the GOC in the next week!

Just been looking at that possible Low in the GOC HF. Still 8/9 days out but things are starting to look more interesting. I like some of the models accumulative precip forecasts too.

It will be interesting to see what the models are saying by the end of the weekend.

Wow RF that is a dry spell for you.

I really hope I don't get too much heavy rain to start off with. All I have out front is an inch layer of loose/dusty top soil with not even any dead vegetation left to stop it washing away.

Here is last nights sunset.

Nice pic Simmo, one benefit of this type of weather. Also sitting on the patio with bugger all mozzies is alright too.

Had a little rain last night about 1ish. Bloody humidity went from pleasant to horrendous in minutes. Got zero sleep from that moment on.
