Yeah absolute flang fest here at Strathpine.

Not surprising we are having something like this after yesterday; very humid with a max temp reading of 38.4.

42.6mm here, mostly from a very lightning active storm at around 10:30. Multiple flangs came within 1km of the house and yet another awesome storm.

Dangerous fire weather when the cap pops

The Millmerran fire may have given a little push to bust the cap - but it was going to storm anyway.

We were wishing for rain in Canberra that day, but the only clouds were smoke, and the "cells" on the radar were fire debris. No comparison. :-/

Another fail here in Kingaroy, if we don't get something soon, the peanut crop is finished.

Steady showers since first light, no fang fest like yesterday morning. Is this priming for a good afternoon if the sun comes out?

2 very close strikes near me last night. One I could see an orange flash outside my window and the fizzing sound you hear. Must've struck maybe 2 streets over.

Despite the morning cloud cover/precip, I still suspect it'll be more than unstable enough for storms to fire up today, with severity helped a bit by the weak slow-moving coastal change and shear.

EC currently suggests activity might start around higher ground near, or south of the border before spreading north... but areas/timings could be complicated by the existing cloud:

If we can get some sun we might be in for a potent afternoon. There's a bit of a surface trough that forms over the Brisbane Valley this evening. A weak southerly also pushes up at a good time (late afternoon) and doesn't push as inland as previously thought. Nice strip of instability along the coast. Steering to the NE, reasonable shear through the mid-levels and even a little backing with height. Even a little capping to stop things firing up on the coast too early. Most models agree that storms will be quite coastal today and track toward Brisbane as the afternoon progresses.

Unfortunately I think the danger with these storms will just be heavy rain and maybe strong winds. I can't see hail being a threat in these conditions. It's all a bit too moist through the profile. Other things I don't like are the thick cloud cover and the weak upper level winds.

Well Done Ben on fantastic photos and Joesk on the timelapse.

This was shot last night from Tropical fruit world just south of the border. More of a local chase so wasn't home too late.
I wont be chasing today as im working afternoon shift, for those who will be out and about, good luck and stay safe.

Thanks much appreciated. I'm still pretty tired from the other night, concentrating on driving in heavy rain and looking for spots to shoot can be draining.
