Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Gympie, Coolangatta, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and islands, Kingaroy, Noosa, Beenleigh, Caboolture and Caloundra.

Looking at radar now again BOM might be spot on for maroochydore/caloundra..watching that cell with interest that popped up out of no where near maleny

I'm not sure how reliable the radar image is the further away from Mt Stapy you get. it's doing alot of weird things on the last couple of frames.

Bad radar interference there. Seemed to start about an hour ago after that cell passed over the radar. False echoes near Maroochydore, complete loss of definition in one frame on the blob of rain over the Burnett, and more false echoes around the 128km circle (but the stuff west of Boonah - Harrisville moving north is real). See : http://www.theweatherchaser.com/radar-loop/IDR662-brisbane/2016-12-06-12/2016-12-07-12

That type of interference on Mt Stapy radar is reasonably common especially on hot humid evenings. The false echoes are normally around the eastern edge of the higher terrain between Warwick and Boonah as well as the Sunshine Coast hinterlands.

Just use Marburg radar to get around that problem.

Thanks ken and everyone for response... just looked at Gympie radar and interference is gone. Was a little hopeful but guess I'll just head off to bed with another boring night here. Night all

Cheers Ben and thanks also Big T.

I never thought of shooting storms from there before, mainly because of the hills to the left and right which can obstruct lightning shots, you have to rely shooting directly west.

Just the odd rumble of thunder on the southern part of the GC this afternoon /evening. I think more of the northern parts of the GC scored better. See what tomorrow brings

Looks like it worked for you Gleno!! Some decent views around there, better to the south and southwest though.

Finally got to go through some photos from Sunday's chase to Dalby.

Missed it all yesterday arvo / last night....got home from work and found 0.7mm in the gauge from I guess a shower that passed through during the day, but not a drop received at Salisbury from any of those scattered storms that we got overnight. Could see plenty of lightning and hear thunder from surrounding storm cells, but none paid my place a visit.

yeah the radar looks broke, maybe a strike close by yesterday arvo i think might have put it out of whack. Anyway, i see today the same as yesterday with maybe a chance of a storm as the cloud cover is thicker today and looks like it won't clear all day. What a great 3 nights though worth of rain and dangerous lightning. So fairly boring today, but the bom has upped the rainfall which i'm dubious about.

13mm yesterday. I can't see too many storms today with all this cloud and patchy rain.

Today might just be a bit better for rainfall today if it stays cloudy, can't see why there wouldn't be any precip today. Cooler change with the new ridge by tomorrow.

Awesome photos Ben .

A lot of cloud cover as mentioned however looking at the Satellite, there are breaks on the cloud out west, so there could be a chance of sunny breaks in certain regions, or it could all cloud over the whole region.
Hopefully Ken can give his opinion on today's situation

The charts are hinting storm activity this afternoon especially in northern NSW, however that's just going by the BSCH storm cast page

Access C has a lot of activity between Tenterfield and Stanthorpe early afternoon today.
It's also hinting rain in the SE region from the early hours of Friday morning spreading to the coast by 7am tomorrow, unsure if that's storms included in that or just a general rainband.
Access R hinting a similar situation.
Have a great day all smile
