The doppler showing a nasty core of wind speeds at least 100km/hr in the Sydney storm that's now off the coast. lucky it didn't happen over land!

Great picture Warren.

Meanwhile, starry starry night here, hot, humid, still, distant lightning to the East.

Had a nice little cell go through, plenty of lightning mostly cc and just the odd bolt.
This cell at times showed half decent structure in the limited moonshine.

Nice pics there. We got nailed on the beaches, flangs galore at one stage caught me by surprise. Luckily nothing fried.
Looks as though we just got a SW 'buster' roll through, very windy now and drier

Not as good as the pictures above, but here are my efforts at capturing last night's storm over Chatswood. I took a short video on my iPhone and picked out a couple of frames.

Here's a bright cloud to cloud:

Here's a many-branched (pronged?) fork of what looks like a Cloud to Ground:

Quite fresh here today (comparatively) but I'm enjoying it.

Temp drops yesterday were very obvious. At around 6.30 to 7pm the airport temp was around 27.7 but I walked out the back door just after a rush of wind that instantly felt cooler and by the time I got to my temp gauge on back porch it was already down to 23. Just prior to that it showed 70 degrees C BUT it does that when batteries are almost dead smile Quick battery change and 28 but a few minutes later 23.

Of course it very gently cooled after that. Plenty of breeze and in fact it blew quite a lot all night. I enjoyed the breeze through the bedroom windows blowing heat out of the house. smile

About 26C here (back at home) with a moderate westerly wind. Very unusual to get such a cool and sunny day with a westerly in summer. I can say that there is a reasonable chance it won't happen again this summer but do we seem to get around 2 or 3 dry and sunny days like this in a normal summer.

The SE-er looks to be in at the Airport but not Obs Hill yet. DPs have shot up about 15C.

Looking forward to some humidity coming back, I'm hungover and this westerly isn't good for the cotton mouth

Lol I know that feeling... Drinking heaps of water before going to sleep seems to stop hangovers the next morning. wink

We have a SEer now and it came through not long ago.

Bit of dry southwesterly this morning, but back to warm and humid this afternoon and Max of 28C is hardly cool.
26C tomorrow, before a temperature rise again into next week.
At this stage December could end up being quite impressive for the new Maitland Airport weather station, running at around 31.8C max so far. (can't remember the high monthly max for the old Maitland Visitors Centre, and it is not on the BOM- only individual daily records).

Christmas nonsense in full swing now but managed to get home for the storm last night. Constant flashing for two hours and constant thunder for an hour. Just awesome.

Been attending Christmas and end of year stuff all week around Darling Harbour and Pyrmont this week. Always feeling uncomfortably warm to hot no matter what day. Loving it.

Today was interesting. Blowing dogs of their chains this morning but got quite warm before the wind turned onshore later this afternoon. Still felt hot in the sun in Darling Harbour which has been absolutely heaving with crowds of tourists and office parties going on cruises and restaurant functions. Sydney is rocking Summer at the moment.

You're 18, you don't know what hangovers are yet. I'm convinced it's a survival mechanism to get us all through Schoolies and uni. Real hangovers kick in properly around 25 (i'm 31)

A hangover is alcohol poisoning, best avoided. I'm a sexagenarian, I've had more than enough of them over the years.

That's interesting Steve, I always pictured you as more of a tricenarian like myself. wink

As for hangovers I don't really suffer as I usually limit myself to to about 3 drinks, or even avoid it altogether.

Yeah Jimi perhaps it is an age thing since the water trick works for all my 17-18 year old friends as well.

Anyway it is actually quite cold here tonight, only 14C at the airport. From the moment the sun went down it began to get cold like a winter's night does. DP is only 10C so it could easily get a few degrees cooler.
