Quinquagenarian here - hangovers best avoided, sometimes not avoided though obviously.

I keep the drinks to 3 or 4 in general although sometimes it goes higher. I hate being drunk so I don't do it.

I don't mind being slightly tipsy grin

Drinking has only minimal allure for me really.

A fresh ole morning out here that would have rattled KIZZ grin 3 degrees min, pretty big effort for December I have to say!!

1,000,000% sunshine, light pleasant breeze - sun is hot if you stand out in it. Heading for about 26, quite a nice day really smile

One of my great pleasures in life is sitting on the verandah an a summer evening with a glass of cider and a slice of bread and butter with cheese. Having a storm come through makes it absolutely perfect.

A Summers evening get together with friends and family starting off with a couple of Pale Ales and a bag of plain chips does it for me 😄
A pleasant surprise with a early morning shower from the SE. Probably got about 5mm from it which was great timing really as it will help kick the lawn along after the overdue rain mid week. Still some heavy clouds about but the sun will win out soon.

This is the long range forecast for Sydney according to the WZ news feed;
Quote:
As we look ahead to January though, it could be stinking hot.

Just like Fox Mulder, I want to believe.

I'd say they're referring to Penrith in that article, Kizz.

Having said that tho, most of the global models are showing a strong warm signal over Eastern NSW for the month of January. It could be one of those freak January boilers like 1896. If the -SAM cranks up up we might be in with a shot, perhaps Santa clause will deliver you a 30+ monthly mean maximum in Jan. wink

The early signs are looking promising for a warm January IMO. Firstly it's probably going to be dry which means a high likelihood of warmer average temps and secondly the SAM for November was the lowest since 1997.

Quite a miserable day here, simply just cloudy and bland. Went to Robbo for dinner and it was an icy 14C up there when we arrived at about 7pm.

Mostly sunny today for most places around the area, but my suburb nearer the escarpment is stuck under the typical Addams family cloud that hangs on the mountain range so we've had very little sunshine today. Bright and sunny just a few km east.

We get a lot of that here in the Hills District too.
We can be under a blanket of low cloud yet you can see a clearing edge to the east and inevitably, the beaches are in full sunshine.
BOM have the chance of a storm this arvo now in the forecast.
Certainly feels humid and warm enough today.
I won't hold my breath though.

Beautiful sunset picture Poida. I had to look up Bensville - never heard of it. On Brisbane Water across the peninsula from Mc Master's beach and not far from Woy Woy.

* * * * * *

It was a beautiful day here today. There was a bit of early cloud about that soon burnt off. Cloud often lingers on the North Shore too, as it did yesterday morning but not today. The sea breeze got started really early, cutting warming off by late morning. It hovered around 26 here all day from around 11:00AM. I note that OH maxed at 26.3 at 10:30 then dropped back two degrees to hover at 24 for the rest of the day (so far).

The forecast has 'upgraded' forecast max temps for Tuesday and Wednesday, 35 and 34 respectively at OH. Thursday looks like one for the heat haters. We do look to be entering a cooler, wetter phase for a while from Thursday, although not a 'mini ice age' like last Christmas.

Here's a short video of part of last Thursday's storm, with quiet parts cut out and slowed to half speed.

Lightning over Chatswood

The storm was retreating. I was near a pub so the audio's not much - pub noise and traffic.

Looks like you were right Homeboy- no storms. Lucky we didn't get our hopes up in what has been an abysmal start to the storm season in the Illawarra. Sydney has fared a little better though.

Nice pic poida and I like the timelapse as well. I have seen Bensville on Google Earth a few times before and so also knew that it was somewhere near Gosford.

Nice video of the lightning Steve, love that bolt at the start.

A few showers north of Wollongong along that strip where the escarpment is very close to the ocean. No doubt they'd be short sharp and heavy showers. Thinking of going for a drive up the coast tonight since I love driving at night now.

OCF has the min temp on Wed at 24.5C and then a max of 19.4C on Thurs for Syd harbour. Quite an incredible turnaround if it occurs as per forecast.

Poida - lovely photo smile

Bensville is a spot almost a secret, used to be a quiet little farmy type area years ago - not now though. Hidden away on what used to be a bit of a back road down to Ettalong smile A little busier nowadays smile

In comparison to all you heat lovers getting excited smile see below smile

On Saturday morning when we had a 3 degree morning, my brother was in a truck heading to Trunkey Ck.

At Georges Plains (18km south of Bathurst) he saw a number of iced cars and even several frosted sections of grass. I find this completely likely given that when we lived in Perthville (about 5km away) we knew that Georges was ALWAYS colder than home. A junction point of two valleys and creeks and a real frost hollow.

So it sure was a cool morning for December.

Extremely likely we won't see a temp that low again until about April next year.

Summer solstice approaching in a bit over a week, hottest part of the year for here coming up (January is our hottest month). Sounds like it might be a warm one this year.

A few isolated puffies out here this morning. Skin a bit sticky - so a bit of moisture about it would seem.

I was watching that storm as well last night while I was mowing the lawn. It just kept to the mountain range from just west of Muswellbrook, and went south. I did hope for it to head 50km more east to myself, but was only wishing.

For those who are wondering why I was mowing last night, I do have a bike light installed on the handle bar on the self propelled mower. Being out in the rural's and plenty of lawn to mow (just abourt 3 acres), who needs to worry about noise pollution while you are listening to various podcasts on my iPod Classic.

Low here was 9.7C early this morning. It was quite pleasant pottering around watering a few things in the cool air before 7am. Now the sun has a real sting to it, especially as we approach the solstice as Dave mentioned just before Christmas, as well as the perihelion in early January. Flies are very friendly lately too.

This is shaping up to be a very warm and dry December barely a day below normal. Forecasts have also backed-off on the rain for this week. We got lucky with two storms last week giving 23mm, but when you look at the soil you would think it hadnt rained for many weeks.

Great storm and cloud photos. I imagine it would be quite challenging to capture lightning. Eddy does it brilliantly.

I had to look up "Perihelion" grin

Earth is closest to the sun in it's orbit. Right - a double bunger for getting heat smile

Ground at home quite dry, no way would you suspect we had all that rain several months back. Deep rooted plants going ok but the surface layers dry.

Yes Rob the flies have been especially friendly this year. frown
