Well no wonder I got so sunburnt down at Hyams Beach last week!! wink Thanks for your little descript Dave since it saved me from having to look it up as well. smile

Yes the flies were very bad down the coast but not as much here for some reason.

J.Pabo- Plus in your area it is probably too hot to mow lawns during the day in summer!! smile

Went for swim at Redhead beach. The bush and grass between there and Gateshead is soo brown! The area is prone to fires.

We've exceeded our forecast max by about 1 degree so far. Suspect it will go higher. Max so far a bees dick under 30, I will be surprised if it stays under 30.

What might just stop the temp is the proliferation of some reasonably solid cumulus around us. A shower for someone around here looks possible later.

There are some bubbly towers building on the Western horizon. The radar shows cells North of Putty and NW of Bilpin.

It's sunny and seabreezy here, basically a carbon copy of yesterday. The breeze is quite fresh, oceans must have cooled a bit inshore. In this pattern, coast areas reach their maximum early - around 11:00AM - and hover there all day. OH seems to be 'capped' at 26.

Long range forcast on Weather.com shows it quite cool on Thursday and Friday and again on the 18-19th but otherwise close to average out to Boxing Day:

Sydney 10 day forecast

We shall see.

Certainly getting a bit dry around Sydney. OH has had 71mm since October 1. Over that period, the average rainfall would have been about 187mm, so that's about 38% of the average in a period of over 10 weeks.

Great storm and cloud photos. I imagine it would be quite challenging to capture lightning. Eddy does it brilliantly.

Same here Rob G, had a good drop of 30 odd mm, gave what grass was alive a good kick along, but sadly not much moisture in the soil, grass is now staring to turn brown.

And thanks too for the nice comment!!

Had our Xmas party last night over at the Bay, it was an nice ole rough trip over with a very strong sea gale blowing and was only slightly better on the way home around midnight.

And today we see another sea gale blowing, can see some convection out west and there it will probably remain too.

Nice pic Poida.

I have heard a bit of thunder east of bathurst. Looks like the storms are going through yetholm again, they get plenty of storms up in the ranges there. Doesn't look likeany rain is headed for me.

Storms also around Mt Macquarie and Mt Canobolas on the radar. Looks like it needs a bit of altitude to get the storms going today.

The forecast/OCF min temps for Sydney on Wednesday morning is quite incredible. OCF is currently at 25.5 as a low, and WZ's opticast is 26 (probably 25. something). That is actually forecasting Sydney's second warmest December min on record.. and the last time it got warmer than that was way back in 1868 (26.3). If it gets to at least 25.3, you'd still have to go back to 1972.

There is a cell just to my south thundering away, and looking at the radar there is a long west to east cell moving NE further south, looking a bit more severe.

Should probably point out though that it did get to 25.6 in October 1981!

Here's a view of one of the cells over the Blue Mountains area, see from Chatswood West about 2:30PM this afternoon:

Distant Storm Cell by Steve, on Flickr[/img]

Those cells look pretty active on the radar, but are falling apart before they reach the Sydney Basin. The storm shield seems to be located along the Nepean-Hawkesbury river, although the far NW (Wiseman's Ferry area) seems to have had some action.

The latest BOM forecast has 'upgraded' OH max to 36, 37 tomorrow and Wednesday. It is also going for a 25 minimum tomorrow night. Thursday has been 'downgraded' to 22, which would be the 'coldest' day since October 28.

If you want to live in a thunderstorm rich area, move to Colo Heights/Putty, they always seem to score a decent storm through there, and today is no exception.

Hey Ben, been loving your storm pics lately... and slightly jealous wink

Yes the forecast for that night here is 24C which is very hot. Will we be getting a strong NWer all night or will it be because of the hot airmass alone? Jw because I haven't checked the models.

I managed to get a few drops before it all petered out.
I don't know how many times I've driven through a storm at Yetholme or meadow flat only to get home and there hasn't been a drop.

Absolutely.
That line between Bilpin - Colo Heights - Putty gets smashed every time.
A real storm magnet.

I've heard distant rumbles all afternoon, yet I've been in complete sunshine all day. It's been a little frustrating.
So close yet so far.
