The southerly has arrived.. Will be great to cool the house down!!!

Forecast for tomorrow is 19°C which is terrible for this time of year. Maximums below 20 degrees should be banned during the summer months.
However I will refrain from whinging if we get 20+ mm of rain tomorrow.

I'm more than happy to take it Wave Rider. The Bankstown aws closest to me hasn't had a sub 20 maximum day since the 28th of October.

Worse still, our lowest in November was 23.

Although here should be 20 tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes. Some cooler weather won't go astray by any means.

Like you, I'm hanging out for some proper rain. Since September it's been a couple of dribs and drabs. Nothing of any major significance. As much as I enjoy the warm weather it being too dry and everything browning out is depressing.

Hopefully in the next couple of days I'll have reason to smile. smile

I'd swap any rain for it to be like this every day of summer, as it should be. Nothing more depressing than sub 20 and wet during what should be the warmest part of the year, as if we haven't had enough in the past few months.

This month has so far made up for that horror October weekend (havent forgotten) when it failed to exceed about 14-15C on the 'wind chill' meter and we had to suffer at the Collaroy music festival exposed to the SW'er, so mother nature can be forgiven there poke

I'll throw my hat in and add that these last few days have been fantastic. Tomorrow should be scrubbed completely. Why don't we all go into an induced coma and wake up lunch time Friday. I'll see you all then.

Meanwhile Badgerys Creek is still off line. Missed a good Summer party. I suspect a lightning strike but how long does it take to replace damaged equipment? BC is going to be a critical AWS in the future.

Badgerys Creek is a good AWS for the western suburbs; I hope it hasn't been decommissioned along with the rest of the town. There was a storm a week or so ago which peppered the area with CGs.

This heat has nothing on February 2011. I remember you squealing like a little schoolgirl at the BOM's forecast then, Kizz.

We made our forecast max of 38C.
Looks like Sydney fell just short, just missing out on getting the old Fahrenheit century for 2 days in a row. (only done twice in history I believe, maybe some Sydneysiders would know this stat).
Sydney City (OH) obviously I am referring too, western suburbs would have done this many times.

Forecast for tomorrow only 18-22C, much more pleasant.
December is still running well above average though, the last cool one we had was 2011.

Yes, exactly. Not record breaking dry in the individual months but it certainly adds up over the course of a few months. Everything is quite dry here, especially after the heat outbreak over the last couple of days. And I daresay that the warm, dry wind even early this morning before sunrise would've taken a toll.

Not raining here but I wish it was. I usually don't like rain but we do need it badly. And another scumtherly with no storms; same old story in this part of the world. Like quaggy I'm so desperate for storms.

If only the southerly busters were like this these days:

A heavy thunderstorm broke over the city, and the wind, which had been blowing from the north-west, suddenly shifted round to the south-east from which quarter it blew very strong for an hour or so. It rained heavily for about an hour, and a change in the temperature was extremely pleasant and refreshing”.

I remember that week in February 2011. Here are the OH maxima for January 31 to February 6:

31.6, 33.5, 31.2, 37.5, 33.7, 41.5, 35.6

There were three more 30+ days at OH later in Feb.

The outlook for the next couple of weeks in the models for our area looks mixed, with excursions into hot and (for this time of year) cold territory, with some rain and storms thrown in.

It was interesting ozthunder that you noticed recently a burden of the long drive seeping in - by the way youre chases/videos are excellent - is it old age or just having driven those same roads so many times and knowing what to expect . also much less user friendly road networks than the states obviously. i attend many country race meets through the year and have always loved the country drive there and back ie mudgee or wellington return trip on a sunday but just recently the drives too are becoming a burden. i would love a storm chase/race meeting helicopter - that is the dream im working towards! ps lots of blue/aqua radar returns overhead but just the odd spittle and 0.2mm so far

I'll never forget that week. It was my first week of high school and on my second day, which was the Wednesday, I went to catch the bus but I was running late. Got to the bus as the doors were shutting and knocked as loud as I could. The old prick looked at me and then drove away. Walked 50 mins home in what would've been 40+ degree heat as it was blowing a stiff NWer. I remember that Albion Park was on about 36°C with an ENEer.

Anyway it's very nice to have a cool night. About 20°C with a nice cooling breeze and some light rain.

Us cold loving "wombats" are just coming out of our burrows. Just think, in a weeks' time the days will be getting shorter again smile.

The first real proper southerly change of the season with consistent wind and some rain. Old fashioned Busters with 90 km/h gusts, roll clouds and storms seem to have disappeared from our climate entirely. The warming SSTs to our south probably have something to do with it.

I've always found rainy days/nights quite soothing and purifying. Ever since I moved back from having spent living 3 years away from home (Surry Hills, Coogee and Erskineville) 3 or so months ago i've really noticed how much drier it is overall here out west.

I always knew that it was judging by radar but now the experience has finally hit me in a way I would've never perceived it at all.

I mean, living in Coogee even on the driest days across sydney we'd get a shower or at the very least heavy drizzle from a southerly which is not something we get much out here except in the most exceptional circumstances.

Speaking of southerly, after it came through I began to really sweat from the humidity in the way I hadn't the last couple of days.

I thought it was just from the humidity but then I realised it's because the concrete (I live in a unit) in the house had heated up so much it was still reading 29 degrees inside (with all windows and doors open) whilst it was about 21 outside from the Bankstown aws sometime after 8 pm.

As of moments ago it's still reading 28 inside. Will be a slow cool down inside me thinks. .

Thankfully, my body has climatised so it's not as much of a shock anymore.

The cool change was fairly weak here, min of 17 last night which was warmer than Tuesday night despite the cool change. Only 2mm here but hopefully more rain in the next couple of days.
