Very nice day here, perfect temp around 30C but it does feel slightly hotter than that as the air is not overly dry.

Yes Heatwave, very unusual how it worked out like that.

Quite nice here too. Currently 21C with gusty W winds. All up 30mm of rain out of the event - perhaps on the lower end compared to surrounding places, bur still a good drop.

I think today's change is running a little late. It hasn't even reached Bega yet, which is still on 31 deg's.
It's past Gabo Island, which is on 17.9 deg's

Currently here it is 31.2 deg's with a gusty NW'er and scattered clouds.

That may mean a elevated long bridge across the Hunter Floodplain. Unless there is better undeveloped ground to the east between Stockton and north of Raymond Terrace. It is not my area so I honestly do not know.

2.6km bridge

Thanks for that link, very interesting.

As for the south of Sydney, the Princes Hwy at Albion Park is one major bottle neck still.

There are plans to bypass that, too:

I agree. Still in the 30s nearly all the way down the coast. I thought it'd be near Sydney by now

Change paased through Bega at 3:41PM. Pribably won't be here until maybe midnight.

Looks like Sydney area peaked around 33-34, with no sea breezes South of the Hawkesbury. 34.5 at a couple of locations including the Airport looks to be the highest.

12 degree drop for tomorrow's max.

Finally through Bega and Merimbula.
I'm guessing it's still 5 - 6 hrs away at least.
Pushing 32 deg's here now, although doesn't really feel too bad outside in the shade.
I haven't bothered with the air-con today.
A pedestal fan is doing the trick while I sit here and watch the cricket.

Was thinking 8-9pm judging by model runs, maybe delayed a little. It made me sigh reading that 1838 newspaper article about heavy thunderstorms cooling the city with a southerly buster, those convicts had it good! we're just clutching at straws at the moment hoping for any little sign that a storm is remotely possible if everything falls into line at exactly the right time and place

The change is on the move and in packs a punch. It passed through Moruya about 5:15PM dropping the temperature from 34 at 5:00PM to 22 by 5:30. Have a look at the Visible Satpic, it's quite clear from a thin line of cloud extending SE out to Sea from just South of Bateman's Bay.

Kiama and particularly Wattamolla will be the places to watch for 100km/h gusts. Going to be a proper southerly buster for sure after an absolutely sensational day of amazing weather. A max of 34C and pretty dry by the late afternoon. Temps between 30 and 35C with less than 30% for me is the most pleasant and comfortable weather.

Such a nice day that it even makes up for the 17C day and now the grass around the place is all green again which is a bonus.

Well call me Donald Trump, a proper Buster at last, in all its tree-bending, window-contorting, house-rattling glory! It took just over 8 hours to travel from Gabo Is to here, which is faster than driving pace. Just like the good old days.

Well, it should be here soon then.
My 5-6 hr estimate was pretty close.
Thanks HBB.
WR was also right with the estimated wind gusts and speed of the change.
I think I'll open the windows in anticipation.
I've been cooking pork and chicken all afternoon for my family Christmas day tomorrow so the place needs a bit of airing anyway. And I'm sick of wrapping presents. lol. Not really. It's just a bit of a chore. That, and buying them.

We very rarely get proper busters here despite being pretty open to the south. Even tonight's one that came through at 10 to 9 was only a moderate breeze with a few bigger gusts thrown in. Still quite breezy at the 'Park and very windy on the coast, but here it is predominantly calm with a few gusts of cooling goodness*.

*Yes I am actually enjoying tonight's southerly because we could cool the house down just in time for dark. smile

Hahahahaha!! Very good dad joke. poke poke

If we get these kind of hot days regularly, then I'm happy to accept southerly busters and cold days.

Sydney's weather has really been great in the last week as there's been great weather days for everyone. Today made a few of us happy and tomorrow will make a different group happy. smile

Everyone except storm-lovers, who are probably the largest group on most weather forums. Like WR, I can put up with the weather I loathe (heat) if there's a reward at the end (Buster, storm). It's elementary evolutionary psychology, really, as any parent giving an ice-cream to their offspring after enforced veggie-consumption would know.

Well, the "buster" arrived here about an hour ago.
Dropped the temp by 8 degrees.
I have no idea what the rest of you are talking about. lol.

And, WR, that wasn't a Dad joke. It was actually funny. Well, I thought so anyway.

*edit* maybe it was a dad joke in hindsight.

Power went out in my building and my street about 15 minutes ago. Probably owing to the Southerly, which does seem to be a particularly strong one.
