yeh the trough will stall for an hour or two, then the southerly's will strengthen (earlly hours of morning) and will move the trough east. but not fast. The thing is though the wind at steering level and above is quite strong coming off the Low. So any thunderstorms coming off of the trough are prolly going to move pretty fast 40 to 70km/h. Which could make a chase difficult. but... So long as many cells keep coming off the trough a photo or two should be possible. This should be a good night. Even after sunset tonight. Wish i could get down to Melbz, but it will still be ok near where I am. I think I will go and play around near Echuca, or a little east of Echuca grin HAPPY CHASING ALL (happy new year too)

Up to 47mm here in Ivanhoe. Amidst the break in storms I ran down to the Darebin Creek... it is truly in flood. Pouring again here, perhaps the last hurrah

Well that was everything I asked for and more from the first real storm day of the season for Melbourne.

Lot's of people unfortunately in local streets around my area have water through their houses in low lying areas. Local creeks are absolutely raging. We are up to around 50mm or so in quick time.

Still raining now with more showers developing behind the main line as the trough stalls I guess.

Hopefully a sign of a better season come January.

Wow Melbourne! - huge rainfalls.

Out in N Gippy, after 3mm of morning showers, the arvo cleared to allow several hot muggy & sunny periods, temp raged up to 35.6C.

A distant rumble or two just before, and welcome rain has just started, will hopefully break up this humidity and cool the house for tonight!

Cracked 38mm here at home and pouring now. New cells forming overhead along boundary of ranges and easterly outflow showing on Doppler. These are then moving off SE toward metro. Over 39mm now

Only 0.8mm for the day. Very muggy all day long with a tantalising overcast sky, but not a sign of a storm even close to us. Closest about 90km away.

Looks like I'm going to finish this one with 60mm or so in the space of under 2hrs. Awesome stuff.

Potential for a shower or something as the evening rolls on but looking less likely.

Happy as with that!

I agree balmz. The humidity has just dropped from 95 to 90 - still sticky. Will see if we get more sprinkles later. There is some zippy lower grey cloud going over head [from the NE] at the moment.
Cheers, Duck.

After looking at non descript stratus since last rain it's just suddenly started pouring again as another new cell pops up overhead. Wind still NNE and dp 22

Well that was pretty exciting... 36 mm in under an hour - really going to have to fix my driveway - who makes a driveway that runs up towards the house...and then puts a gutter at the end of it that lets the water backed up in the street to run back up the drain to under my house? .2 barrows of dirt to stop the water running under my house.

Some great falls across the city! Good to see my first thread has delivered, even if i didn't mention! Melbourne airport a total mess, with many flights diverting, still causing problems with aircraft holding before Canberra on the Sydney-Melbourne route.

Wonder if the Gisbourne cell will hold and make it back over the metro. Shame it isn't sparking yet.
