Definitely a good strong southerly Steve.
It's very windy here, even this far west and away from the coast.

Went down to 2.5C here last night. Clear and sunny this morning with light scattered frost. High yesterday was 22C, supposed to be 16C today. That will depend on whether the cloud hugging the coast edges further west.

Cool with broken cloud here with some sunny breaks. The wind has dropped back to a moderate breeze. Power came back after about an hour.

Satellite picture shows the marine layer extending not quite to the Divide. It looks reasonably solid though thin. I might just happen to be under a gap at the moment. Hopefully the gaps take over.

It's actually a surprisingly cool air mass, with 850 temps over Sydney around 5 degrees.

It's also a very dry airmass for a southerly. The dew point here is sitting on 11C while temp is 18C. Fully cloudy here though and the breeze is chilly.

With the fairly dry airmass, it means that Moss Vale is 6C cooler than us which doesn't usually happen in a southerly at this time of year. The difference is usually about 3-4 degrees.

PS: Homer, I thought it was funny, but, it was the kind of joke a dad would make which is fitting for you since you are one. smile

Lovely sunny day here warming up quickly, already getting towards twenty after 9 overnight. Clouds hugging Mt Horrible this morning which means an easterly and clouds on the Blue Mts.

And we're back to Winter here.
Light showers keep sweeping through here making everything wet. It is quite dark and overcast and that wind has an unpleasant nip to it.

GFS forecast says this marine layer of overcast won't clear until tomorrow night.

Yeah it actually does feel like winter today, not only because of the temperature but also because of the low humidity. Can we possibly get yet another sub 20 degree day?? This kind of variety is spring weather, not summer! Back up to hot again by Tuesday, this is nuts smile

I guess it makes up for the incredibly boring and uniform spring we had. I must say endless 20-25 degree days do get very boring after a while.

I'm heading up the Southern Highlands again today (to sta this time) and it is a freezing 14 degrees!! shocked

At 2.30 sydney was at 20 and bathurst 25, not often bathurst is that much warmer than Sydney. Still lovely and sunny here, not much breeze.

It is so crazily cold up here tonight. Temp has just dropped below 10C at nearby High Range and it's mid December. Quite a strong wind which feels absolutely bitterly cold, and cooler than mid winter at home!! But then up to 31C on Tuesday!!!

On a warmer note, Albion Park has already had six 30+ degree days which is already the most its had in a December since 2008, which had seven of them.

Yeah today was a Summer abortion.

You try and prepare yourself for it but the reality is just so much worse. I went to bed for a couple of hours this afternoon just to wipe this rubbish from my memory.

We reached a high of 20C with full sunshine most of the day. A cooler but humid easterly wind change moved in late this afternoon bringing low misty cloud. Looks like pretty warm conditions building this coming week with little prospect of rain.

Drinking alcohol does a good job of erasing memory, Personally I haven't done enough studies on sleep to see if it erases memory!!

But agreed, it was a completely crap day!!

Very pleasant change today with only 23C max, after yesterday's steamy and deceptively hot 34C, which felt more like the subtropics.
Evening now very pleasant, and should be good sleeping weather tonight -made even more pleasant by not having get up in the sub-daylight and have to work tomorrow.

Monthly average max currently at 30.8C, above the long term average, but not quite at record breaking levels. (even though this is only the 1st December at Maitland Airport recorded, the Maitland Visitors Centre highest was in 2005, Tocal is 1990 which has longer records)

I thought that 30.8C would certainly be the highest for December in Maitland. There's certainly been some warm Decembers in the past and I do remember Dec 2005 being very warm (even though I was really young) and it all ended with New Years Day 2006.

I have consumed plenty of alcohol this month and got a lot more consuming to do over the next couple of weeks!

Sleeping is cheaper. If I'm asleep that is less time I am consciously aware of the crap weather.

Dec 2005 was a couple of degrees hotter, in fact from memory was hotter than any Jan or Feb high monthly averages. (which were 2007 and 2004).
The old station is now closed, and the records have been archived on the BOM, but not here.
They do not include monthly records, except for rainfall.
