Had 2 mins of moderate rain last night at Shellharbour around 11pm. Surprised to see other nearby stations got a drop.

I see that the BOM has forecast 5 consecutive 30+ days for OH from Boxing Day, although none are particularly hot (top is 33 on the 29th). As they would say in "Yes Minister", that's a "courageous" forecast. I think that the seabreeze will be fairly strong and hard to resist, but we shall see.

Even so, it will be hot in the West. The forecast for Parramatta and places further West shows seven consecutive 33+ days.

EDIT: the cloud started breaking up around 1:30PM and it's now clear, but quite windy, which makes it feel cool. I expected the BOM to revise OH's forecast to 25 or 26 this morning but they stuck with 24. Looks like they got that right. Penrith got up to 29. 1 above its forecast.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to wish everyone here and also all the extended forums a very Merry Christmas and safe holiday period.
It's been a great year of chatter and photos and I very much look forward to all our trials and tribulations next year.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!

(are we allowed to say that these days?)

Hooly dooly, next 6 days are over 30C, with 36-39C for Boxing Day onwards.
Looks like the December average, based on 1 month, will be a pretty high one at the new Maitland Airport weather station.

Everyone's allowed to say Merry Christmas and everyone's delighted to receive Christmas greetings.

Merry Christmas Homer and everyone. May we all get the weather we want for at least part of the season. Some like it hot, some like it cooler, some like blue skies, some like rain. We all like thunderstorms.

This world has gone so politically incorrect it ain't funny.

Agreed Homer, someone will always get offended by something nowadays laugh Can't do much about it I guess

Interesting how the storm potential just grew with every forecast/model update.
For the coast, sea-gales with afternoon anvil cloud appears to be the pattern for the next few days.

Looks like there's extensive upwelling developing on the NSW coast between Port Macquarie and the Victorian border, especially between the Hawkesbury and Forster. Here's the prediction for the 29th. Christmas holiday swimmers are in for a chilly surprise:

Thanks for putting that up Steve. It's very interesting and although I haven't been following it too closely I believe the water temps around Newcastle have dipped down quite regularly the last few months.
Merry Christmas to all. I enjoy reading all the contributions and the banter, hope to continue in the new year.

I haven't had the chance to dip the big toe in the big blue and feel its chilliness, but looking at that chart I'm not that keen to do so!!

I wonder how DaveM is enjoying our low humidity along the coast? poke grin

Yeah Merry Christmas (you can say it Homer!!!) to everyone on this forum. I have also really enjoyed the contributions on this forum in the past year. I'll definitely be posting next year as well, no doubt. I am always a bit concerned that forums like this will fade out into more contemporary methods of social media, but, this community is still going strong.

I'm a heat lover but for the majority of people, tomorrow will be almost perfect weather for Aussie Christmas celebrations. Sunny and warm but not hot, especially in western Syd where the real heat will begin Boxing Day, but also won't be cool and miserable. 27C in the city and 33C in the west; this will be the best Christmas weather in years.

Today did not quite make the forecast of 32C, only 30C, but in for a fest of heat starting tomorrow.
Thursday and Friday now upgraded to 41 and 42C (from 39 and 41) and Saturday also 40C for the last day of December and the year.
This should really ram up the December average for the 1st December recorded at Maitland Airport, and close to the old record at Maitland Visitors Centre in 2005.

I'm not sure about the high 30s forecast for Obs Hill this week. If there's nothing to stop the sea breeze I don't understand how those temps would be possible

My thoughts too when I saw the forecast Jimi, they do mention E/NE winds of 15-25km/h at the least. GFS looks more realistic with high 20s.

2 things I've never seen happen before:
35C+ with a seabreeze, and rain on new years day. Both are a possibility laugh

I just drove to Callala Bay and back for something to do and show my bro where we had our schoolies trip. It was very windy at Gerringong and in fact on some parts of the road to Shoalhaven Heads the car was being blown around. I was very surprised by so much wind at this time of night.

Yes LRH it's a bit unusual this year. New Years Day is hardly ever rainy as you mentioned and on the other hand, when do we ever get a sunny and hot Christmas..
