happy new year all. lets hope 2017 delivers some decent widespread rainfall. with the dam at 14% we need all the help we can get. sadly the outlook isnt great, but hopefully some heavy storms this coming week might settle over the city.

My pathetic total of 649mm shows how badly the rain distribution was and it was worse the closer to the dam you got.

1700 for the year 2016, not to shabby although over 700mm of that was march.

GFS outlook looks so yummy but I have seen this countless times and not deliver so lets just hope 2017 is wetter

Correct me if I am wrong but with the monsoon trough forecast to be right over us, That would bode well for decent rain right?

Definitely not necessarily. There have been plenty of times when the monsoon trough has been on top of us or to our south and we have got absolutely nothing.

Townsville and the whole district. The reality is that the presence of the monsoon trough on the surface chart is no guarantee of rain over any area. Sometimes it will be "active" and there'll be widespread rain, just as often you wouldn't know it was there.

It's in an active phase right now, That's what I meant if its over us in an active phase, as it is right now, and dam the radar looks sexy to my west lol

ANd geez I wish that GFS 14 day rain chart wouldn't keep teasing us like it is again.

Radar says it should be raining in Ingham. Not a drop in sight and I can clearly see the mountain ranges. Some light far off rumbles but that's it.

The monsoon trough near us usually requires a ridge underneath it to produce heavy convergence. If the monsoon trough is to our south we can pick up heavy storms from the NW. Sometimes.

Currently an upper low is sitting about 50km sw of us.you can see the weak rotation on 250km radar. Hopefully as that slips away sw a little tomorrow we might see some storms from nw.
