There was even a spot of black over the dam on one radar frame. The most intense of rains!

went down the dam and got some nice pixs. was nice to have some cool rain considering it was 37c at my place earlier in the day.

sadly back home just enough to the wet the ground, maybe 1, 2mm at most.
seems the cells are again exploding on the other side of townsville like they usually do. still had between 5 and 40mm in the dam catchment. least that is something.

It's been building around Ingham all afternoon. Looks like we may get a drink! Some close CG's and loud booms.

Here's a picture taken by my wife at 3:15pm of the storm activity in the Upper Ross looking from the Domain area. Shortly after we went for a spin up Hervey Range and encountered some pretty torrential rain. Also saw three CG's on the return journey off to the northern side of the road.

Last day of harvesting is complete down here today, just in time for the storm activity by the looks. Didn't get much at my place today maybe 1mm or two but certainly looked like town copped a bit this arvo.

So apparently the dam is at 29.7% this morning. Is that possible?

no, that is incorrect data.
go to
https://www.townsville.qld.gov.au/water-waste-and-environment/water-supply-and-dams/dam-levels

under RR Dam, remove all years bar 2017. will show the dam level on the far left of screen. can see its gone up to about 16-17%.

Got that info from the Dam Twitter account this morning. It has been known to spike randomly in the past from what I have seen.

Ross River Dam is currently at 29.7% capacity (69,193 Megalitres). Latest reading at 7:00am on the 3rd of January. #Townsville

Actually, following the link it says 30% also.

Edit: it is a spike, they have put a note on the website explaining this

gfs had it positioned on the coast at bowen for around this time today on the 18z run, which looks about right as the echos east of bowen on the radar are coming from the NE to SW.

so we would now be on the western side of it, which is still not great (better north of us) but better than right on top of us. there is still very little steering influence, steering should be from the S-SW but only 10knots.

Just hope I get something this time. Drove to ingham yesterday evening, was torrential rain. Could really use that widespread between ingham and tsv. Forecast still shows heavier rain likely for the next few days for most of us. At least WATL shows that on the per day total forecast.

In the much longer term. Seems el Nino may be back next wet season.
