Happy birthday RWM!

Onshore showers brought 8.8 mm yesterday, pushing us over the 2 metre mark for the year. It's also quite possible that this November will end up being cooler than October for some places.

If you take a look at the BOM, in particular for Brisbane, you'll notice that October was actually cooler than September (by 0.3 degrees, but still, cooler). http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/dwo/201711/html/IDCJDW4019.201711.shtml

If the cool continues as forecast, November will dip below October's average of 27.0, at which point it's just a matter of the temperatures staying down for another week and a half. It would be unusual to have a flat trend over three months in Spring/Autumn. September's temperatures were well above average though, and there's definitely been a shift in the atmosphere since the big rain event in October. So it's not entirely unusual.

FWIW, October also had lower daytime extremes (maximums and minimums) for the month than September did.

I'm at a loss as how they SE winds work. Yesterday on the Gold Coast it was fairly overcast and showery most of the day. Today its mainly sunny with some cloud about, however the weather chart looks exactly as yesterday's.
So why are the conditons more stable today compared to yesterday?

Good question Gleno . . The south east trades of a blocking high wish it would move on and annoy some other place

Complete opposite here - yesterday was windy with a bit of cloud but nothing much else. Today we're being hammered by extremely heavy showers from the SE.

Awoken by a rather bulky shower that came ashore early this morning, it brought the majority of the 10.0mm that fell in the 24hrs to 9am. More onshore shower activity this morning with 3.4mm since 9am (making it the 9th rainday in a row). The bulk of the cloud has moved a bit inland now.

Humidity is a bit lower on the Gold Coast and neighbouring areas than it was yesterday. I can't see the sky there, but if there is still a bit of little puffy clouds about, perhaps there's currently a rather low-levelled cap in place preventing the clouds from getting enough height to produce precip.

2.3mm total for Salisbury from yesterday / last nights showers.
I set our camper trailer up in the backyard today to do some work on it and drove a few pegs into the ground, was nice to have soft ground all the way down for the 250mm deep that the pegs went in.

GFS & CMC with our own cold pool being slung up from the south thanks to some of the strongest ridging over far southern Australia that you'll ever see for November. Will EC join the party? A real welcome change after last year's pathetic effort where the core of this ridging was stuck further north over QLD & the Coral Sea.

Hi Seabreeze, I had another great weekend up in your neck of the woods. I arrived on Friday to a mostly fine day, a bit breezy but probably the best of the weekend. See pick below.

Saturday started of drizzly but the afternoon turned out ok. A nice short but heavy shower over Trial Bay.

Today, Sunday was much the same as the day before. Unfortunately back home now but already planning the next trip!! smile

Nice pics Eddy! Friday was definitely the pick for outdoor activities. The second pic reminds me of when I was in my previous house here, and my room had a clear view of Smoky Mountain. I quite liked watching the onshore showers roll in and see it progressively disappear.
Fittingly, a shower just began as I finished this post.

Thanks Colin and Seabreeze.

Next time I'm in SWR I will make sure I will come and say hello!! I was short on time this time round as I was there for a 50th birthday.

Overcast and drizzly in the far south of the mid-north coast and quite cool at 20c.

Wet signal in the 8-14 day timeframe still appearing in some ensembles (some of it's due to that first system near the start of the period and some due to additional precip).

1st map = probabilities of greater than 10mm/day for Brisbane Airport - note the sudden pattern shift.
2nd map = CFSV2 anomalies.
3rd map = probabilities of >25mm precip in that period from GEFS.

All looks promising Ken hope we see a couple more storms its such a shame that our best month for storms is being hindered by high pressure ridging and the trough favouring the inland. Also feels more like Autumn then spring with the warm days and cool nights

Agree with you there,i hope the storm season hasn't ended already. Though GFS has inland activity next weekend.

Yes, looks to be another cool down for the afternoons here this weekend along with breezy conditions, with a fresh batch of southeasterlies coming through. We will be lucky to see 20C over the weekend here.
