My only thoughts are on the yet to arrive monsoon which usually impacts the NT coast between Xmas and New year if it is on time. To date the monsoon flows have been weak due to missing big Siberian highs ( 1050hPa plus ) needed to push the flow down this far initially. The weak flows to date have been hijacked by two Sub Continent lows and now two east Philippine depressions, but still that is not too abnormal so early. In a true La Nina set up these flows would normally have impacted our north coast by now.

Was hoping you'd pop by with your thoughts - looking like monsoon incursion next week, depending on location of the forecast TC? I also note that some significant cold is forecast for both Asian and American continents, at last, that should finally kick the transition into gear?

Yep. Just keep an eye on the Siberian High value plus gale force winds through South China Sea. Then add about a week.

Awesome pics of your holiday Ken. I'm loving this weather ,although it can be a bit hot at my workplace, I'm lucky enough to have a pool to cool off, or even a beach walk with the sea breeze.

I just checked the weathercam network and noticed a lot of web cameras have been down for sometime, notably the Brisbane one. Does anyone know what's going on there?

I am glad you are OK RWM. I hadnít seen your obs for Wynnum for a while so I was just hoping all was well. , I am at the opposite end of the Bay on the Northside near Sandgate and overlook Redcliffe, it was interesting comparing the obs.

Cheers and take care.

A storm produced a decent lightning show over parts of the Macleay Valley this evening. The storm missed here, with the nearest of the lightning getting within about 5kms of here. The southerly change has moved through here too, and was shortly followed by a noticeable burnt smell from the Crescent Head - Port Macquarie bushfire (which ended up burning 10047 hectares). A few photos I got on my mobile as the storm was weakening -

Gentle thunderstorm accompanied by occasional fresh winds, moved through here a bit earlier around midnight. Seems like there'll be a lingering chance of further storm activity through the night locally.

Very nice Seabreeze, we are all storm deprived up here so it is nice to see someone is nearly getting some storms. SDS is a serious condition for us weather freaks. The doctors have a hard time trying to treat us, just have to do deep breathing exercises, chill out music, colouring in and Valium. 🤕🤭😬🤯.

At least we may see some showers in places in the SEQ. A bit fresher this morning although a little muggy. It is only 25 C here at 06:04 AEST. The humidity is getting ridiculous.

Slight chance of storms to the west today,

As previously mentioned by Warwick Eye2Sky, we patiently await for a decent rain event. Over the past 6 months to date we have recorded about 150mm in total. The potential was there for more but as has been the situation over a number of years here the storms tend to skirt this patch of the Southern Downs. With the prospect of slow moving storms over the next couple of days we might be lucky enough to snag one or two. We desperately need some relief - all the better this side of Xmas Day.

Nice paulcirrus! Yeah I've been to Japan a million times before but this was my first time in Sapporo and I absolutely loved it. I went to their winter illumination display that stretches along Odori Park and even though I'd seen webcam images of it, to see it with your own eyes was breathtaking and something I'll remember for a long time. Below are some photos I took there and elsewhere in the city. It really did make it feel like the leadup to xmas.

And thanks for the compliment gleno.

I'm so glad I got my interesting-weather/snow/cold fix to tide me over this more mundane weather back here.

Looks like a mainly southern & western affair for slow-moving thunderstorm potential today & tomorrow with the S to SE coastal change stalling near or south of the border.... although in tomorrow's case, activity looks to spread a little further north and east.

Weak steering winds and shear = slow-moving erratic storms, many of which will probably be pulsey rather than lots of organised severe cells. It's the type of storms I hate but I guess if you don't mind any storm, you'd be happy if you were under one.

Great pics Ken, thanks for sharing, glad you enjoyed Sapporo, awesome winter display up there. The crunching sound underfoot when walking in the cold snow is unforgettable, I miss it so much.
So hot here today, 35C, getting over all this heat, need something breaking this boring hot weather.

Rain and storms have managed to avoid this area once again. It looks like however the activity is inching closer. I wonder if it is unstable enough for storms to last well into the night here on the Southern Downs? I am guessing from what I am observing it does..

The exception being one storm cluster that formed SE of here and moved over the Killarney area. It was quite lightning active as I heard many good rumbles from that cell here. I frequently take trips down there and it has been quite lush and green for most of the spring and summer season.. Even Thanes Creek, 45km west of here has had a fairly wet spring. A friend of mine cannot believe how much rain they have been getting out that way compared to Warwick.

Radar showing orange and red around us but the rain is not that heavy. No thunder heard. I bet you are getting most of the heavy stuff in N. Warwick Signalman?

Storms now approaching the Toowoomba area for you guys and gals up there. Only 3mm out of all that here. Hoping for more later. Looks like just north of here scored much more.
