Was nice and cool - amazingly cool for summer - outside this morning. Stars extremely clear at 4:30am.

A refreshing 22.3C for a while this morning.

Looking at the satellite you'd think it was the dry season, if it wasn't for the low over the North-West. Looking at the sky here you'd think it was the dry season. frown I'd really like some more good rain.

Reckon they'll get some rain in the West. That lovely big swirling low is set to become a cyclone. Will it fizz?

Pretty, Ronf, a lot less clear here.

Off and on rain during the night, 40mm in gauge and still more coming it seems.

Nice, pic's RF. The cloud formation looks like "mammatus clouds"?

Looks like round two is coming next week, with some decent rain along the NTC. grin

I am pretty sure I heard distant thunder at 6am this morning...but I did not check the radar. I guess it was the cell up at Port Douglas... hope someone got a drink. It is such a waste to see rain at sea!

Drivenunder - I always think that very thought re rain at sea, about overtaking lanes - feel very cheated when there is no one to overtake.
Supposed to be a wet week here - or so they say.
A few fireflies out last night - mysterious little things - how does an organism generate electricity?
Trying to correlate as to whether they are harbingers of rain or not. They like the same tree which the Ulysses butterflies breed on - the Evodia one with lilac flowers. Sometimes its lit up like a Xmas tree, fairly speccy.
40mm of rain whilst I was away on Australia Day, as per usual.

Last time I saw a firefly was in Ubud, Indonesia in July last year! Magical things they are!

Pretty cool photo's Ron..almost looks like a octopus tentacle snaking though the clouds in the 2nd photo..

The fireflies can be annoying when they are inside at sleeptime Kowree...

yep, those darn models are predicting more wet ahead ...their accuracy seems to be improving...but then again a blind and retarded Monkey could probably tell you there is a good chance of rain in the wet season...

What can you do when you've got a sky like this.

There used to one tree on the banks of the Murray R that fire flies used to gather around, it was a beautiful sight ( the real Murray just south of Tully not that inconsequential one down south)

It's not electricity Kowree it's a biological reaction
