A TROPICAL LOW AND ACTIVE MONSOON TROUGH IS CAUSING HEAVY RAIN AND SQUALLY SHOWERS AND STORMS ACROSS THE TOP END.
A Tropical Low 1004hPa located near Katherine is expected to track westwards across the base of the Top End during Tuesday and Wednesday. The low is combining with an active monsoon to produce squally showers and thunderstorms.
DAMAGING WINDS with peak gusts of around 90km/h are forecast for coastal areas of the northern Daly, Tiwi and northern Arnhem forecast districts.
HEAVY RAIN which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is expected over the Daly, Tiwi, Arnhem, Gregory and northern Carpentaria Districts.
Widespread 24 hour rainfall totals of 50 to 100 mm are expected with isolated heavier falls.
Locations which may be affected include Darwin, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Jabiru, Maningrida, Wadeye, Wurrumiyanga and Nauiyu.
Widespread falls in excess of 100mm have been recorded across the Top End with 275mm recorded at Labelle and 209mm at Channel Point
