Guessing another 100 mm overnight, rain tanks overflowing for the first time in 3 years. Very happy now.
Local flooding in Sarina overnight with what looked like a metre of water over the road at Chef Express on Grasstree beach road.Photos on Facebook tell the height well.

Sorry to copy and paste but the below sums it all up. Good falls around the district

A near-stationary low pressure trough located near the state's central coast has been producing heavy rain in the Mackay region since Tuesday evening.

The heaviest falls occurred in the moisture-laden onshore flow just south of the trough, where Sarina collected 304mm and nearby Sucrogen Weir received 273mm during 24 hours to 9am today.

Mackay Airport recorded 230mm between 6pm Tuesday and 6am today, which is more rain than they saw during November and December combined. It is also the airport's heaviest daily total in at least 21 years.

Mackay south has done very well. Mt Julian on only 16mm for the year so far which probably the lowest in the whole CC&W region. Hopefully our luck changes today...

In Feb 2008 we had that significant rainfall event where 610mm fell in the 24hrs to 9am on Feb 15 at a station (Mackay Alert) only 3.5km away from the Mackay Aero weather station... Unfortunately the Mackay Aero weather station failed and did not record this figure frown. From memory the majority of the 610mm fell between the hours of about 3am-7am on the 15th. shocked

Looks promising.....

INITIAL FLOOD WATCH FOR THE PIONEER, PROSERPINE AND DON RIVER CATCHMENTS

Issued at 12:37 pm EST on Wednesday 4 January 2017

Issue Number: 1

A surface trough located along the Central Queensland Coast is expected to produce enhanced showers and thunderstorms over the warning area through to Friday.

Widespread 24 hour rainfall totals of 150-200 mm are likely with locally heavier falls up to 300 mm possible.

River level rises above the minor flood level are possible.

Heavy rainfall may also lead to localised flash flooding.

Catchments at risk within the Flood Watch area include the Pioneer, Proserpine and Don Rivers.

See www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings to view the current flood warnings for Queensland.

gorge road closed they (council), now have a rather expensive boom gate just short of the first causeway that only closes off 1/2 of the road. Unless your familiar with the conditions here do not attempt to cross.

if there is one river on that list that needs a good flush out its the prossy river thats for sure,, It hasn't looked healthy for a long time and specially around the town area, Still a long way to go for that to happen though.

30mm yesterday plus 25mm early this morning for 55mm last 24 hours at Mt Julian which is great for the grass and plants but no run-off at all. I had my hopes up after the BoM warning for a lot more than that.

breezy all the rivers need a good flush. Don river was all sand at the bridge the other day.

yeah your right R.R they all do... haven't seen the Don running properly since the first year we arrived here. Here's hoping for all of the rivers in the whole of the north to get the good flushing they need. a resurgence of life and health.

105.5mm here in Glenella from 9am yesterday. Wild old night last night. Of course I had to be out in to see a late movie with friends. Slow drive home😄
Was actually surprised and relieved how much better Heaths Road is now that there is better drainage since the soccer fields were built.

Just tipped out the gauge for the fourth time = 400 mm to date since Wednesday.
Broken weather station last year has been a pain (Fine offset one that lasted a year and half) and now in the market for a new one. Anyone has suggestions please PM me.(not a lot of $ but ok to pay for something decent)
Three cows got washed off Grasstree beach road last night and last report was one had drowned, SES were called to assist and i believe did a great job getting them out of the creek.

The Prossy-Cannonvale road is closed in two places now, Hamilton Plains and Brandy creek. Prossy Mill had 204mm yesterday to mid night and another 82mm so far this morning, and 422mm for the event. Mt Julian a bit less. breezy, you can click on the links to the weather station summary just below.

Thanks R.R living in Taylor st and is fully under water now,,, people are starting to piss me off by driving through it at high speed and pushing water right up into peoples front yards. Mine included. Still have a little way to go before water will be at house level but more on the radar and my faith in peoples commonsense and care factor of other peoples predicaments is sorely depreciated.

Hadn't checked the rain gauge down the bottom since the 3rd tipped out 314mm but spilled a bit, since it was full to the brim so 320ish. Its the only gauge out of the wind. Davis Vantage VUE on the blink with new batteries needed reads 280mm Ytd. 311mm at the house in a little rectangle rain-gauge. Not sure of accuracy of it especially when its windy.

Gorge road in Finch hatton gorge will remain closed. 1/2 metre plus, of swift running water over the causeway is a dangerous recipe for disaster. I haven't been out of the gorge since "last year"

Tomorrow could be worse with forecast temp at 34C for Prossy and very high humidity. Mt Julian AWS hit 46C on the heat index - yeah it was very oppressive. Looking though the Mt Julian records during 2016, the HI went higher that 50C five times during Jan and Feb!

BOM says 31.5 feels like 36.8 dp 27 deg.

What's the cause of the high DP ?

Dew point temperature is closely tied to relative humidity. If air is at dew point temperature, the relative humidity is 100%. In other words dew point temperature is the temperature at which the air cannot absorb any more water and therefore water vapour begins to condense into fog and/or dew (condensation).

Relative humidity is the percentage saturation of water in the air at a specific temperature and pressure, so if a given volume of air at 25deg with a RH of 65% then increases to 30deg, the RH decreases (assuming no other changes occur). This is why dew that has collected on the ground in the early morning soon evaporates again as the temperature increases, because the air is then able to absorb more water.

When the relative humidity is very high and the air temperature is also high (like today), this results in the dew point being high as well because the air is close to being saturated with water.

Hope that makes some sense!
