Don't they all? The clean up bill for mines already totals $Billions and many are from Australian mining companies that have not met their obligation.

Well, the Coalition does need to find the money to cut the tax on that part of their their big business mates' profits that they can't hide.

As predictable as tomorrow’s sunrise and as unsurprising as this morning's:

Australia breaks with NZ over UN resolution

Australia's foreign policy: all the way with the USA (after Obama goes that is), so unconditional support for Israel. Netanyahu has no interest in peace except on his own terms, that the Palestinians accept their status as a colonised people.

And Julie Bishop, a mediocrity that gleams dimly in the sea of clownish incompetence and stupidity that is the Turnbull Government.

It's a lose lose whichever side one takes in that mess.

Watched a good video on the whole debacle that is the west bank today. Unless one side wipes the other off the map there will likely never be peace there.

Unfortunately both right in my opinion.

Australia doesn't have a direct interest in this conflict beyond a desire to live in a secure and peaceful world where rights are respected. We shouldn't be taking sides but calling situations as we see them. Historically, the USA has taken one side and will again when Trump takes over. Australia has blindly followed. Julie Bishop says she favours a two state solution. The expansion of Israeli settlements into occupied territory detracts from the viability of any future state.

Ideally, Israelis and Palestinians could live with dignity side by side in a state which they can both call home. Ain't going to happen any time soon. The Palestinians won't accept this sutuation, even if there's not much they can do about it now. Why should they? Would we? Did the Baltic people?

What with religion mixed into the whole mess as well, it's all the very definition of intractible.

Both sides are in the wrong. Too much hatred. Too much belief in an indefensible ideology. Too much history of tit for tat. It really is a case of the chicken or the egg. The whole world should take a step back and let them go at it. Once one side takes total control the rest of us won't have to put up with it anymore

Brett, G'day Mate. I hope that you are well? Here is a tad of detail, which has created this hatred.

Conservatives, particularly US Republicans basically are self identified evangelical Christians. A large percentage of them believe in The Rapture, which is a delusional dogma invented by Christian fundamentalists, going back about 200 years ago.

The Rapture holds that true Christians (unlike myself), will be wafted into Heaven, when a cataclysmic battle in the Holy Lands occurs, heralding Christ's return to earth. Wow that is impressive! So, let's continue the fight?

Come this Rapture gig, I'll just watch it on TV. I'm a bit busy at the moment to be a full-on Crusader.

I hope that this helps?

Warren.

I was talking about the hatred between Israel and Palestine. Yes it is religious but has little to do with republicans.

Brett, so was I.

Just that I rapidly expanded the hatred onto the Judaeo Christian Right. Continuing their proxy war in the Holy Land fostered the US's financial military industrial complex's massive arms sails to Israel and Saudi Arabia ... which is the reason why the hatred will not be allowed to stop.

Keeping war going is good business.

Warren.

I am with on that one WW. Although it is not just the Christian right responsible. The last 8 years of Democratic rule has instigated and promoted the Syrian war for the same basic reasons. But yes. The US are very guilty of fanning the flames in the mid east and I don't know if it will stop.

And why has the Government resumed its attack on the unemployed, the sick, the disabled and the aged? Well, they make much easier targets. They can't afford armies of lawyers and accountants to plead their case, unlike big corporations, multinationals and those who own and run them. They don't own media outlets. And they don't make donations to the Liberals and Nationals.

Memo Christian Porter, Scott Morrisson and Malcolm Turnbull. The problem isn't that people abuse the system. The problem is that the economy doesn't create enough jobs. That people can't get work. Instead of blaming and attacking the victims of your incompetent management, do your job!

Nice thought. On the evidence so far this mob cannot govern.
