After a pleasantly cool evening, followed by an equally pleasantly cool morning (I could walk my dog without dissolving into a puddle of sweat), it has begun to steadily rain.

Dark and gloomy here with steady light rain after a few sunny breaks earlier. I think that this is the first significant rain in this area in about a fortnight (i.e. since the Sydney Test).

Storms seem to be fizzling out into light rain as they come off the tablelands, but maybe the coast will get something later.

I suggest we end this thread after today's / this evening's cool change and move back to the Day to Day thread. After a mild, non-eventful weekend, it looks set to heat up early next week, but that will be a different event.

EDIT: SEvere Thunderstorm Warning issues for much of East-Central NSW, including the Tablelands, ACT and inland parts of the Metro and Hunter. These must be the promised 'gusty storms'.

I only heard two, and they were both very distant.

Does anyone else think we have seen the worst of it, which was at best, just some steady and occasionally heavy rain?
The sat pic and lightning tracker look rather benign. Or is further stuff expected to develop later?

There's not much radar west of Orange so if it does redevelop there won't be a lot of warning. There still seems to be rain west of dubbo and in the north, hopefully there is some rain building up to the west of Parks.
13mm here.

Hopefully the latter occurs but as you say Homer, it is looking a bit benign on the sat pic. Perhaps the sun will be out long enough to build up some more storms.

If only there was a weather radar somewhere in the central west, like Orange or Dubbo!

Yes it would be very handy for tracking these types of events.

Surely we're going to get more storms developing out west- the dew points are insanely high well into the 20's and even up to 25-26C in some areas like Mudgee and Coonamble.

I hope I am wrong, but I think its all over for the Illawarra.

With under <3mm in the gauge, that will just stem the evaporation rate for 2 hours, and then back in deficit.

The rain stopped a while ago here, nearby Chatswood has picked up 7.0 mm (including 1.0 before 9:00). The cloud is breaking up, the sun's made a few brief reappearances and the cicadas are doing their thing, although they seem to get in a bit of screeching whenever they can on days like this. No one as far as I know have credited them with the ability to predict the weather.

The main rain band seems to have passed. There doesn't seem to be much incoming on the radar. The Severe Thunderstorm Warning area has been shifted Northwards and no longer includes the Metro, Central Coast, Illawarra or Blue Mts.

EDIT: Warming up quickly onthe south Coast with a wind shift to NW, 30 at Ulladulla, 34 at Moruya.

so exciting to get 10mm of rain. That will give one afternoon off from pumping and watering, but no complaints.
Think another big line of storms will redevelop out behind orange and move through here later. Hoping for a proper main course.....

Yes GR also hoping that the approaching southerly will hit here at about the right time for storms to have developed again.

Temp here about 24 with 21 DP, Humidity 85% so still lots of moisture available.

It FEELS like it should rain again out here, the air FEELS soaking wet on my skin, clothing stuck to me and that it rare for out here.
