That apparent large cell off Newcastle and the Central Coast seems to be a mirage. Meanwhile, the real cell near Blackheath is growing but not moving. Those over the Southern Highlands are moving slowly SE.

Hottest in Sydney today looks to be Richmond reached 38.7. Penrith going for 40 Wednesday, 42 Friday.

EDIT: severe thunderstorm warning issued for Blue Mountains and Southern Highlands and Illawarra inland areas for DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL.

35.7C in Canberra today, the next 7 days all above 30C with 38C on Friday, and more heat next week by the looks.

Average so far this month is 30.1C against an average of 28.1C, this week will push it quite high. For reference the Jan record average 32.3C.

Had a drive today down the Hume highway near Goulburn and drove into a storm near Marulan south. Quite some torrential rainfall in it with the odd crack of thunder. Traffic slowed down to 60km/hr during the worse of it.

In terms of my place, we have had 2 thunderstorms so far this season and none that i could remember in the past few weeks. Needs a lot of catching up.

HI all,

Rain set in quite nicely at the moment. Can hear it from inside.

Quite suprising in these types of set ups as it's usually a drip or drop and not enough to even wet the payment. From my second floor I can see pools of water starting to form.

Bankstown AWS up to 1.8 mms for the evening but I suspect it could go higher still. smile

I returned yesterday from a 10 day cruise in the south Pacific (New Caledonia and Vanuatu). Shocked to find we're still in a very slow (or even stagnate) weather pattern. shocked

The cloud cleared from the North Shore area after noon, with full sunshine here for about the last hour and a half. The seabreeze arrived at OH shortly after the sun, dropping it a couple of degrees from a peak of 31.1, its forecast max. Meanwhile, the Airport looks to be the only Sydney station to reach 35 so far. The Hunter is a bit warmer but not by much. Bathurst, still under cloud accirding to its webcam, is on 31.

cloud all day here, according to the radar it is raining but I can't see any. Much better day than yesterday, nice to get a bread from the heat. Now if the sky clears around sunset we should get a cooler night.

The cloud is steadily building up, to the south of Sydney. Hopefully, it will bring us a bit more rain.

Fair bit of cloud around here this arvo and even some drops of rain. Didn't really heat up like yesterday after the light rain this morning which was a nice break from the heat. A pleasant and breezy 30 right now. Tomorrow will be 34C and 36 or possibly higher on Friday.

Looks to be some lightning on the tracker out Campbelltown way. Going by the radar it's headed straight at Me. Hopefully it makes it this far smile

Cells are just popping up, maybe there'll be more. The seabreeze is mixing with hot air and it's very humid. It's still sunny so storms could move into the Sydney basin or pop up inside it.
