Thanks for the thread 'p' 😀

Really hopping we get something tonight,
But can't help but think it might only be 1mm
At the most!!

I think the only hope for anything half decent
Will be Friday which hopefully can deliver at
Least 10mm??

You are spot on Doogasnow. Though mild here the wind is sucking the moisture away. If Friday doesn't produce significant rain I'll be changin' my profile to Hanrahan an' sayin' "We'll all be rooned!"

Things are drying rapidly.

Latest GFS is showing any useful rain to be confined to the Wonthaggi/Strezleckii's/Prom area - hope it comes off for that area, but wish we could have picked up 10mm or so dammit!!:

[edit] - TB - I heard a local lady recite an excellent version of the "ruin'd" poem on our local ABC yesterday!!

Latest model runs show some useful rain over most parts of Vic over the next 24 hours - GFS is the most pessimistic of the current runs:

For N Gippy, EC showing near 20mm, AccR about 16mm - so I'll regard anything over GFS's 7.5mm "a win smile ".

What? crazy Do you mean cloudband?

Interesting set up, EC been on it for 10 days the other models have come late to the party - would have been a real interesting system if not right on the heels of a solid cool change/dry out. Should overcome those dry parts of the atmosphere but would have been a real snazzy one if it didn't have that resistance. Still, beggars cant be choosers and will be disappointed with less than 10mm here at home.

Gee I hope this thing comes off!!

Gfs has my part of the world receiving
10-15mm, I'm not sure what access g is
Saying because I can't get on that model
For some reason😨

I hear what your saying 'ruckle' about the
Dry air spoiling the party for those larger falls
And I hope this dosent eventuate! But one thing
Against it all is that it doesn't get that day time
Heat kick, like the big event we had late December.

Lovely secondary band behind the initial one should hopefully add to the totals. Plus any wrap around for coastal areas. Good stuff.

Some gusty winds as the storms come across the dry air

Friend of mine in Horsham had terrible lighting thunderstorms as looks like heading Bendigo,

The trough band is working harder to move East/NE to let tight High Pressure move in SA and Victoria.

I actually got up for this one. Since we haven't had an evening storm here forever. Lightning was embedded, short lived and pretty much rain started at the same time. No wind so far, and steady rain. So nothing to severe In this neck of the woods.

Rain started about 6am. Guessing 3mm - 4mm so far in steady light rain. Radar shows the rain band has about 30 mins left in it for this area - then a chance of showers behind.

Petros ... yes I heard several bush poem readings from that woman on local ABC - brilliant - but I didn't hear the Hanrahan one.

Had wheelie bin thunder from 145 to 230, mostly from the north. Hope electronic gauge is wrong as it suggests I have had less rain than just about everyone around me. When it stops raining will see I guess. Certainly looks wet outside. Lots of very good falls and low just getting sorted.

Yep The Fisherman, I think I must have slept through the action as well [which is not like me]. Had loads of rain here in Wantirna, but nothing exciting outside to get me out of bed to watch it wink
There is plenty of low 'scuddy' [if that is the right term] cloud zooming past here at the moment, so maybe there is something more interesting to come in the wind [atmospheric of course] department. Will wait and see.....

Cheers, Duck.

Hey guys! I'm home from Corryong and Merimbula.

Long drive from the NSW South Coast through Gippsland to Melbourne yesterday, but at least the weather was nice for the most part. Full report for yesterday to come later. smile

Reporting from Belgrave...

Overnight low of 15.5C, currently around 17C. Damp and overcast with drizzle, following heavy rain last night, no thunderstorms though. Collected 23.2mm in total last night (22.1mm to 9am btw), with the rain starting around 1am and then continuing more or less until about 9am. Happy about that! smile

That pessimistic GFS won out here - 8.75-much appreciated-mm here (wish we had the EC/GFS progged frown ).

The arvo turned out to be a gusty SW'ly - hope the paddocks around here had a chance to soak up this mornings rain (started at 3:30am) - before the wind evaporation kicked in.

No thunder.

Reached a top of only 20.6C here in Belgrave yesterday; the Sun managed to poke through the clouds on-and-off throughout the arvo from 1pm until sunset. We also had a few light showers, especially early in the evening.

Otherwise, it's been a wintry day! The wind felt cold and raw like it was July or August. :eeek:

My parents, who are currently up in Corryong, reported collecting 14mm of rain. Nice! smile

Currently around 14C. Looking forward to some much warmer weather returning to Melbourne starting tomorrow, and hopefully some more storms and heavy rain early next week. My eyes are eagerly watching the models for any signs of a good storm outbreak across Northern Victoria/Southern NSW/ACT to start out my trip to Canberra and Sydney from Wednesday onwards! smile

Heres my report for Thursday January 19th, covering my return trip from Merimbula:

My fiance and I had to go straight back home to Melbourne for a friends wedding, held on Saturday, while my parents returned straight to Corryong. We all left our accommodation at about 9:30am; my fiance and I didnt arrive home in Belgrave until around 10:30pm, so we were on the road through Gippsland for roughly 13 long hours. My parents made it back to Corryong by around 5:30pm, having travelled via Pambula, Bombala, Dalgety, Jindabyne, Thredbo, Tom Groggin, Geehi, and Khancoban.

We stopped in Eden around 10am, and then crossed the Victoria/New South Wales Border around an hour later. Another hour later we arrived in Cann River, followed by lunch in Orbost roughly 90 minutes later.

Passing through Bruthen (thus bypassing Lakes Entrance and Metung unfortunately), our next stop was for a quick breather at Bairnsdale around 3pm, then a leg-stretch and powernap at Stratford around an hour later, then a bite to eat at Sale at about 5pm, and finally another quick breather at Rosedale around 20 minutes later.

From there, it was straight through the Latrobe Valley and Warragul to Melbourne. But rather than going straight home to Belgrave, we decided to head to Brighton to enjoy the evening together and have dinner first.

Weatherwise, the day was perfect! It was admittedly rather chilly in Merimbula, but otherwise it was cool and mostly cloudy through the NSW South Coast region down to the Genoa/Mallacoota area (which we reached around 11:30am). Up until about 4:30pm when we left Stratford, the weather was hazy but almost-completely cloud free, with plentiful warm sunshine and cooling east/southeast breezes from the Tasman Sea/South Pacific Ocean and Bass Strait; the winds were quite gusty in Orbost btw! smile

High cloud began arriving over the western horizon between Stratford and Sale, with mid-level cloud also moving in as we exited the Latrobe Valley and approached Trafalgar and Yarragon around 6pm. By the time we reached Pakenham and entered metropolitan Melbourne roughly 30 minutes later, cloud was increasing rapidly from the northwest.

Cloudcover thickened up after 7pm as we left the A1 Princes Highway/Monash Freeway (Melbourne-Sydney) and entered Wellington Road at Mulgrave, with virga streaming down from the clouds by the time we reached the bayside suburbs. Just before 8:30pm, the clouds broke up enough to review a brief but surprisingly beautiful sunset! smile

Directly overhead, skies remained mostly clear once we reached home but cloud increased during the night ahead of the heavy rain and thunderstorms that swept across Victoria on Thursday night and Friday morning.

Minimum and maximum temperatures (in C) for the different major locations my fiance and I passed through (or near) during the day:

Merimbula Airport - 9.4C / 23.8C
Mallacoota - 10.3C / 22.5C
Point Hicks- 12.3C / 22.7C
Combienbar - 7.8C / 27.0C
Orbost - 9.2C / 25.9C
Lakes Entrance - 8.5C / 23.6C
Bairnsdale Airport - 6.3C / 23.1C
Sale Airport - 7.4C / 23.4C
Morwell Latrobe Valley Airport - 4.7C / 24.9C
Cranbourne - 7.6C / 25.1C
Moorabbin Airport - 9.0C / 24.1C
Scoresby - 8.1C / 27.3C
Ferny Creek - 8.2C / 24.0C
Melbourne - 11.0C / 23.4C

And for my parents drive back to Corryong, both of whom reported mostly good weather:

Merimbula Airport - 9.4C / 23.8C
Bombala Airport - 7.9C / 24.4C
Cooma Airport - 10.2C / 24.6C
Thredbo Top Station - 3.9C / 18.4C
Khancoban Airport - 10.5C / 31.9C
Corryong Airport - 12.5C / NA

Sadly because of my sister's wedding in around 12 months, it could be a very long time before I'm able to go back to Merimbula. frown

So this marks possibly the end of 12 consecutive summers of staying on the NSW South Coast, but I look forward to returning soon! I still have Corryong to go back to at any time though. smile

Looking forward to heading off to Canberra and Sydney in a couple of days! grin
