Just for the hell of it I thought I would post up the league table for daily maximums in Sydney this month.
This is from my work/hobby of data science so the table is generated from a database.

Doesn't include Camden and Campbelltown which are technically Illawarra.
Some dates have more than one row if there is a tie.

Code:
Date Highest SiteID Site Name

2017-01-01	28.8	066137	BANKSTOWN AIRPORT AWS
2017-01-01	28.8	067019	PROSPECT RESERVOIR
2017-01-01	28.8	067119	HORSLEY PARK EQUESTRIAN CENTRE AWS
2017-01-02	26.9	067119	HORSLEY PARK EQUESTRIAN CENTRE AWS
2017-01-02	26.9	067105	RICHMOND RAAF
2017-01-03	28.9	067108	BADGERYS CREEK AWS
2017-01-03	28.9	067105	RICHMOND RAAF
2017-01-04	28.1	067108	BADGERYS CREEK AWS
2017-01-05	27.0	067108	BADGERYS CREEK AWS
2017-01-06	27.3	066212	SYDNEY OLYMPIC PARK AWS (ARCHERY CENTRE)
2017-01-07	31.2	067113	PENRITH LAKES AWS
2017-01-08	36.7	067108	BADGERYS CREEK AWS
2017-01-09	38.7	067105	RICHMOND RAAF
2017-01-10	38.5	067113	PENRITH LAKES AWS
2017-01-11	42.8	067108	BADGERYS CREEK AWS

Might do more if I get time.

I think that Camden and Campbelltown seceded from the Illawarra a few years ago to join Sydney (actually, the BOM adjusted the boundaries): Metropolitan Forecast Area

I've noticed in this hot spell that Badgerys Creek is a particularly warm site - often a couple of degrees ahead of other Western Sydney stations.

Topped out a bit over 37 today. Still sitting on 37. Pretty warm for us!!

Warmer tomorrow but the worst thing is tomorrow night will be our hottest night of the year, only 21 or 22 which the coasties wont think so bad but we supposed to average 13 or 14 overnight - big difference for us smile

Finally at Bathurst we are getting more normal humidity, 9% RH at 5.30. Most of the summer so far the humidity has been much higher than normal. I hope it means it will cool off fairly quickly once the sun goes down. Looks like another hot day tomorrow.

Just noticed that for 2016 several places on SW slopes were wetter than Albion Park on the coast, for example Young.

Even West Wyalong came with 100mm of Albion Park.

Early marine layer cloud has burnt off here in the last hour or so. It looks like we have a weekend of benign, fairly sunny weather coming up, no possibility of storms, records or much rain I would think. So not interesting weatherwise but good weekend weather for out of doors, work or play. Hot weather resumes Monday and Tuesday followed by another cool change. After that, it looks pretty mixed and uncertain, with an unsettled Australia Day weekend (counting the 27th Black Friday).

Warm signal over Eastern Australia persists for the week after next: NAEFS Global Temperature Anomalies

The forecast on Weather.com is suggesting that maximum and minimum temperatures for Sydney will be about 2 degrees above average over the next 15 days: Weather.com Sydney. I think the forecast is for the Airport.

So, good for ice cream vendors, less so for heat haters. But I have a theory that hot Summers are balanced bu cold Winters, so maybe something for cold lovers later. Anyway, I like my Summers hot and my Winters cold.

And what happened to the storm season? There have been storms about in the last week or so, but I haven't seen one since Christmas Eve, 4 weeks ago.

Cloud on Mt Horrible again, otherwise clear and sunny. There is a bit of smoke haze just noticeable, not as bad as yesterday which gave us a deep red sun at sunset.

This is very confusing.

The fourth ODI cricket match is being played in Sydney today and the weather is fine.

Not sure what to make of this.

It's like when Christmas Day was sunny and warm last year, it was quite unusual but no complaints.

I was just about to make a point that today was very much like late spring. But in reality, it was actually a completely typical January day with the temp being spot on average here. It's just that it has been so hot for so long, that days like today which happen regularly in a usual summer, feel very spring-like this season.

Heading for 37 today and then 42 tomorrow.
The heat is sticking around, before a change towards more humid weather.

Mainly clear skies here, with a bit of high cloud, NE breeze. Everything feels a bit fresher since the rain, the first we had in 5 weeks. It would be nice to gt a bit of follow-up this week.

Im in Sydney this week. It is amazing how oppressive the humidity is here, where even a moderate paced walk early this morning left me in a lather of sweat. The gardens and lawns are looking pretty ragged (Hills area) showing the effects of ongoing heat and lack of rain.

Bathurst is on track for its equal third hottest summer on record so far equals the summer of 1939. The only hotter ones are 1929 and 2014. The odds of setting are new record are pretty good. Around Porters Retreat, the recent rain just soaked in and by last Saturday afternoon you would hardly know it had rained at all the day before. Even so, the dry and warm conditions have made for superb cherries picked the last box over the weekend. Next fruit will be pears still 6-8 weeks away.

In Sydney, the October to January period has also been very dry the driest since 2002, and the 18th driest on record.

Yes Rob - I was in the Windsor area on the weekend and did a LOT of sweating as well smile

Yes it's been quite warm here this summer.

8 days left in Jan then 4 weeks of Feb, not that I'm counting or anything smile

Cheers Dave.

I hope it doesn't get too hot in your tin shed these next two days. Going to be pretty warm.
